how to remove "Daily Take" parasite app

I get notifications from something called "Daily Take." I know that I did not install this so it must be ad-ware or scum-ware attached to something that I did install.

How do I get rid of this parasite?

I don't find anything in Settings --> Applications --> Manage Apps that looks like it is the culprit. The fact that it is hiding is another indication
for me that this is some sort of scum-ware.

Thanks in advance,

Do you have Mafia Wars installed? My understanding is that they may be related..

I think it is notification push advertising known as AirPush.
So it is just advertising, annoying but not dangerous :D

Run 'Addons Detector' and 'AirPush Detector' to find out when one of these AirPush addons is in one of your free apps.
With 'Addons Detector' use the filter 'Push Notifications'.

Free apps which contain such kind of addon you should uninstall and you'll get rid of this notification spam :)

I loaded and ran both scanners.
Found LOADS of stuff -- many of which made little sense to me.
(At least I understand "licensing" and "analytics", but ...)

Cleared off "Push ..." everything.

We shall see if that gets "Daily Take".

I used the two "detectors" which found several "push" add-ons ... er, parasites. I removed the associated apps and restarted the phone.

Ugh! "Daily Take" is still there.

Bollocks,

Hi Dan,

these AirPush scanner won't remove the culprits' icons. You have to remove them manually. But I think that you did this, didn't you :) Cleared the notification bar, respectively if the icon (actually, it's a link) is on the screen, shoved it in the trash.
Forgive me for asking :)

But this might be a new kind of this "advanced" Advertisement :(

Do you get that "Daily Take" icon on the notification bar or on a home screen?
Or is it a popup that has an OK button?

Any way, you might try an other method.
You might hunt the culprit on your own with the aid of the phone logging app 'aLogcat' (free in Market).
But be warned, you'll need some experience with logs or the will to learn it ;)

Wait until the annoying ad appears in you notification bar.
Start 'aLogcat' and then clear its log.
Then pull down the notification bar and tap on the icon of the annoying ad.
Return quickly to aLogcat (via long press on the HOME button).
Now you should see the culprit app and following it the AirPush SDK in the log's rows.

With the "Daily Take" icon you have to run 'aLogcat' and have to wait until the icon appears. There will be more log rows. So to find the culprit will be not easy.
Good Luck!

An other thinking. Are you sure this "Daily Take" doesn't come from your carrier? Together with a firmware OTA update?
If so, even a factory reset on the phone won't remove this spam :(

Yikes! have there been confirmed reports of carrier apps using notification ads? That'd be terrible :(

It's not confirmed, it is a suspiction :)

But there is a thread in the forum about a 'Robert Palmer' app on Samsung phones. Not in the app tray but in Settings' Applications. The app seens to be from Samsung, but also might be from the carrier.

So I thought of it with "Daily Takes".

All I've ever done is CLEAR the notification -- which is the only manifestation I get from "Daily Take." I suppose that I've been afraid to launch it not knowing anything about its bursting radius.

Thanks

Just for to be sure (nag nag nag :D ):
Run 'Addons Detector' again.
After the analyse scan you should see:

List of apps with potential addons
Filter: Push Notificatons
No applications with addons!

... so shows an empty list :)
