i've heard good things about Imo's lean kernal. I'm using Lou's right now. I'll know tomorrow how good it is. Tomorrow will be my first normal day of usage since i flashed it. So far it seems to be a little better than stock.

When using Imo's kernel and undervolting, I lose maybe 5% max overnight on standby. Today I dropped from 100% to ~30% after 13 hours on battery (3G only w/ Wifi on the whole time)

lean kernel was by far the best for battery life on my thunderbolt. i am enjoying apex right now, but i also carry a spare battery, so that is not my biggest concern.

Is undervolting/overclocking built into this kernel? Or is it like some of the rest that use SetCPU?

Doesn't look like my favorite overclocking app QuickClock Advance supports the Nexus yet.

Yeah, I agree about really no need to OC. My main concern is UVing to try and get better battery life.

Lets see, after what I call extensively testing stock, Apex (faux), franco, Lou, & imoseyon, the battery crown with my conservative UV's goes to Imo's lean kernel. Franco is about equal, but I end up with lockscreen lag after 2-3 days usage or until I clear dalvik again. Franco 9 is now available so haven't tested it yet.

I haven't tried matrix, savaged zen, kang-bang. or JD's yet. Lous kernel does not have UV'ing built in.

What ROM are you on? I suggest trying imoseyons 1.2.1 and use setcpu to set the governor to interactiveX. No UV'ing just try it for 2 days and see what you think.

I'm getting hilariously improved battery life using Lean.

I've been using my phone sporadically since 7am, on 4g the whole time, and I'm down to 85%, which suggests 40+ hours of battery life.

So give a new kernel a try then. Make a backup before you flash it. You'll never know until you try it. It's simple to just restore your backup if you find you don't like the new kernel. You'll get much better feedback yourself, than from us telling what you should try

So, flashing a 4.0.3 kernel will not update me? Where is the 4.0.3 update then?

I don't see a link to Imo's lean kernel in our rom/theme/kernel section in teh VZW root area

If you'd like to stay on 4.0.2 you'll have to flash either Lous or Adryns (not even sure adryn is still available) 4.0.2 kernel. If you flash a new 4.0.3 ROM than you can flash any 4.0.3 kernel on top of it.

Both threads are in the VZ root section. Imoseyon's is called Lean Kernel and Lous is HeyItsLou toro v2

also, the instructions for lean kernel say to clear setcpu data. I haven't used setcpu, just the performance setting that came with gummy. Do I need clear any of that data?

Yep, when installing a kernel you just wipe dalvik, no need to wipe anything else (in fact wiping anything else would be bad )...

If you haven't used setcpu then you shouldn't have to worry about clearing that data.

So, if I flash the Leankernel: Minimalistic Kernel (1.1.0, 12/25/11) (which says it is 4.0.3) then that will upgrade me from the current 4.0.2 that I am on to 4.0.3?

No, you have to flash a 4.0.3 ROM in addition to the kernel.
