Yet another reason to own an android phone over an iPhone.

"It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see," Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of product marketing, told the New York Times.

Why not just create "safety" levels so a parent can go online and set the types of apps his/her child can see.

I thought apple had ratings already, g, pg teen and m already. i never used them myself because when i was with Apple, my kids did not have an ipod or iphone but seems like an easy way to filter such with parental controls.

i agree tho that for those that were already approved, and in the store, were screwed. They should have grandfathered them in at least and then done a ratings system. Then be told what rating they would fall in before going to store so they may change the app if they wanted to be in a certain demographic.

Obviously, some of those devs made money on those apps, as well as Apple, so there has to be another factor and i think it has to do with appeal to the masses. I know whole families that have iphones, Mom, dad, brother and sister with the younger ones with ipods.

Apparently, Apple's plan is now to create a separate, "explicit" section of the iTunes store, where adult-themed apps will be able to reside in the future. It's beyond me, though, why they didn't do that first, simply moving the adult apps over there ... instead of deleting all those apps and creating a shitstorm of negative publicity for themselves.

Regardless, though, this is a golden opportunity for Android developers: let's get some more porn!! :D

I think the reason Apple did it the way it did instead of the smart way is that they aren't used to having anyone question what they do, and just accepting it because Unkie Steve is just doing what's best for us, since we can't take care of ourselves. But now that there are viable options to the iPhone (finally!), people are able to go "Hey, look, why are you doing that, Apple? The Android store isn't doing that!" And now, there is actually negative publicity about Apple out there. I really don't think Apple was expecting people to get so pissy about it.
