Yeah so basically I've tried reading upon rooting but everytime I get to understand one thing something else confuses me.I've read somewhere that the new DHD update needs to be downgraded for rooting to work? I mainly want to root my phone to increase battery performance and make my DHD smoother.

Is there anyone kind enough to post a simple and safe tutorial on rooting my DHD with sense 3.0 and help me decide what ROM to use?

Sorry but I'm quite a big noob, as I've never done anything like this on a phone......

Did you take a look at the Ace Hack Kit linked to here: http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-...guide-dhd-all-things-root-roundup-sticky.html

It does everything for you (even the downgrade by the looks of it) so it should just be a case of prepping your PC correctly, click and then bang.

Have a look at the link and the AAHK manual, see what you think. If you need help, I'll happily write a guide for you (unless someone gets in there before me), but I'm away for a few days as of this evening so it might not be till after New Year.

Worth noting that I've never actually run the kit so I don't have first hand experience of it (when I rooted, it was all manual command prompt stuff) so I may not be able to capture all steps in great detail.

Thanks :D, I'll have a go with that! I don't have to do any downgrading or anything since im on 2.3.5 sense 3 do I ?

And what's with this warning message :Doing this WILL severely degrade bootloader performance on Inspires (and likely DHDs) and causes issues trying to install RUUs. In other words, it WILL jam you up. (Note: Issue unconfirmed on DHD - ignore at your own risk).

If you look at the first post of the XDA thread, it says that certain software versions of sense 3.0 are not compatible with the Hack kit, and that even with the correct version, it will wipe everything.

As for the warning you mentioned, this is related to the ENG HBOOT installation, so I wouldn't worry about that

Thanks,

I just did it as I read somewhere that the process itself will downgrade my sense 3.0 which it did and However I just checked with some app on the market that my phone has not been rooted?
Also the thing you do on booting, power and volume down thing comes up.

The easiest way to check is to download Terminal Emulator from the market (link - https://market.android.com/details?...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImphY2twYWwuYW5kcm9pZHRlcm0iXQ)
and type in 'su' (without the ' '). If it comes up with a hash then you have superuser rights.

I don't think that the hack kit has been tested much with sense 3.0 so it may be a bit buggy at the moment

What do you mean by this?

Yeah I used that app.
Ermm when you hold down the volume button and press the power button some root screen appears with some options like recovery and fast boot ( sorry for the vague English).

Anyway I just tried to do the process again and it worked I got root access now. Sorry for all these questions but can anyone show me how to get Cyanogen mod 7.1 and that lord mod Kernel on my phone now?

Read this post - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-...-anybody-rooted-using-tool-2.html#post3304206 and the post below it for a short guide on flashing a ROM.

You'll need to download Titanium Backup to backup all your apps, and SMS Backup & Restore for your texts. You can either restore your apps by reinstalling Titanium Backup and using the restore function, or using the method that El P outlines in the post.

Is it normal for Android market not to work?
On the old android market I get a download unsuccessful error every time so I tried to download the 3.4.4 one to see if this resolves that issue, but the 3.4.4 one just keeps saying no connection :/

Go to Applications > Manage and uninstall the updates for the market to get you back to the old one. Then clear the data and cache for the market and reinstall the new one. Hopefully that should fix it

Now I got cyanogen mod 7.1 everything looks fine and I think it's. Really good however USB tethering doesn't work anymore, in the notification bar it would say tethered but no internet access on the pc

I never got the tethering to work either, neither did I get the wifi hotspot working. It was rather annoying as I was using tethering for my internet in my house when I had no wireless.

I am currently using this ROM - [ROM][BUILD 4][24/12/2011] Unofficial Oxygen 2.3.2 port for the Desire HD/Inspire 4G - xda-developers which is an even more bare-bones ROM than Cyanogenmod, and I will test out the tethering with that and get back to you; maybe you could try this ROM if it works

Was the ROM good? And did it fix the tethering problem?

Check with your carrier for allowing tethering on your data plan.

If you're trying to tether out of contract, carriers can detect that and throttle your connection, block things, you name it.

In such a case, our policy doesn't allow discussing ways to beat your contract.

But if you're within your contract rights to tether, then they shouldn't be blocking you and it's ok to try to help here.

Not judging you, just letting you all know what might be up as you'll have to decide which case applies to you.

Thanks for your response.
Before rooting USB tethering worked perfectly, so I would assume my carrier (O2) would have no issues with USB tethering. Besides my phone wasn't supplied by my carrier.

Tethering doesn't work on Absolution 3.3 either :/ also tried Oxygen and Miui but no luck there, but I like how Miui looks like so I'll stick with that since it's clear it's not a ROM/ Kernel fault.

Edit: The tethering options on the roms itself seemed to be at fault, I downloaded Wired Tether on the internet and usb tethering works when using that application only :D glad it works now though!
