Has anyone NEVER dropped their smartphone?

Just wondering. I occasionally come across threads of people posting results of dropping their phone (which vary from nothing happened to screen totally shattered and phone unusable), and those threads get filled with people talking about what happened when they dropped their phone.

I had a TMobile G1 when it first came out in 08. After a year of being disappointed with TMobile 3G coverage I switched to Verizon and bought an OG Droid. Upgraded to the GNex when it was finally released last month.

I've never dropped any of those 3 phones. Is that really that abnormal? Has nobody else never dropped their smartphone, and yes, I mean only smartphones, because I did indeed drop various non-smart phones over the many years (10+) prior to buying my G1, but none of those were remotely as expensive as any of the smartphones I've owned.

I've never used any sort of case or screen protector. The Droid did end up with a very small scratch (~1/8th inch long) that was only visible when glare reflected off the screen at just the right angle, after two years of use. Have never paid for any sort of insurance, protection plan, extended warranty, etc, and would never think of paying for one.

Accidents happen and I supposed it's directly related to how you handle your devices. I think I have dropped every phone at least once, but (knock wood) I have never dropped one from a significant height or onto concrete. I did have an old Nokia dumb phone that fell out of my pocket into a parking lot which I subsequently backed over and the sucker still worked. I wouldn't recommend it as a test of durability, though ;)

I dropped my Blackberry once, or more precisely, missed the coffee table and it fell off the edge, landing softly on the carpet. And my V has slid out of my hand a few times when I was falling asleep while texting, either from the couch or the bed, again always landing softly on the carpet.

I really wish Nokia would have went with Android instead of WP7. They make great hardware.

I've never dropped mine, never, ever, in the whole two weeks of owning one! :)

You're doomed now. :p

I take pretty good care of my devices, but drops are inevitable. Back when I had my old Mytouch 3G I dropped it several times, luckily it was never on a hard surface. I don't know if I dare say this, but I've never dropped my Nexus S. It still looks brand new, even though it's a year old. I've come extremely close to dropping my Note, since I forget how big it is, and try to play with it using only one hand. Hopefully I never drop it though, my fingers are crossed.

so.. how do you feel using that NOTE in public? talking on it with it next to your face? in pockets of jeans? or shorts?

I used to throw my dumb phones around. Only broke one screen - the impact was just too great. I've never thrown my smartphones, though. I dropped my OG Droid once in the grass; break it did not. Given that these things are expensive as laptops to replace, I treat them accordingly. Oh, wait a minute, I have purchased insurance for the first time... Walls: look out!
