If you did option 1 then you have forever root installed and should be fine updating to .893. You can check if forever root is there by using root explorer and going to system/bin/mount_ext3.sh open that with text viewer and check to make sure it says

chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

If it is missing superuser line you can add it by closing the viewer and open it with text editor. don't forget to change mount option at the top to r/w .
save it and exit.

I thought using adb was only optional? What am I missing here? What is fastboot?

Actually, you need adb for just about everything. You need to install the Motorola drivers first.

Ok long story short I rooted my bionic and deleted a bunch of apps. Now that my phone is receiving the official moto update I cant update because of that. Ive got RSD, the drivers, and the FXZ file and am trying to flash it back to stock however, after going into RSD and finding the file I dont get the option to "uncompress and start flashing" only "uncompress" and "cancel" are clickable. What do I need to do? Also will doing this flash restore all the apps so I can update? I did the forever root, do I need to remove that before proceeding? Thank you!!!!

Use ReleasedRoot instead.

If you're on 886, you're all good. If it's a 893 variant, then you'll have to use a modified zerg binary. I'll be updating the post with that extra stuff soon, as well as some more RSD images.

All of them are perma-rootable. 893 is just a little bit more annoying, but we have foreverfoot to make things easy. Just ignore the update temporarily, then to the root and foreverroot, then you can use the OTA.

If it comes with 893, then just let me know. I'll fix the guide up soon, but in case you get it before, I'll just post the zergRoot binary that makes life easy.

I don't know why dhacker didn't use the patched version in the first place, it works for every build...

This brings up another question about flashing. If a ROM is built off of .866 and you're on .893 or visa versa does it mess things up? Coming from a TB so I want to know how different it is.

It's all fine, the only thing that doesn't work so well is when the radio version is lower than the system version.

You can run Liberty (886) on a system that's been updated to 893.

The radio can not be changed other than by an OTA update, at least until Motorola (or someone else) unlocks the bootloader.

I'd personally go to 893 and keep the radio. It fixes so many of the problems. 901 is even better, but I wouldn't get off of the official upgrade path myself.

Funny, that's the same thing I used, but I just packaged it in dhackers stuff. You can use the zip I made above to do everything at once, including the foreverroot.
