Should I buy the Galaxy Nexus or Razr?

I have had an iphone 4 16gb for 15 months now and I would like a change, I have been looking at the Galaxy Nexus and RAZR.


My question is which one would you recommend or is there an alternative phone you think is great?

Both are great phones. Truthfully, only you can answer that question. My advice would be to.play with them both in store and see which one you like. The screen is what sold me on the GNex.

While the RAZR is a decent phone, its display is its weak point. If you're used to iPhone's retina display, the RAZR might drive you nuts.

I'd suggest checking out the ReZound as well since it's display is pretty decent. You have to see them in person to really know which is for you.

I owned a Droid X. The Motorola has some great points - the build quality and radios are about the best in the business.

It also had some weak points - the locked bootloader sucks for modding, and the forced Blur overlay is mediocre at best.

The Gnex will be most like your iPhone 4 in terms of hardware, design, and the newer os (ics) if you're looking for something familiar yet different.

the rezound and/or gnex would be at the top of my list.
the razr would NOT be on my list.

as already said .. go play with them. even though i would not buy a razr, they are all good phones.

The Razr is worse than the Nexus in almost every measurable aspect. The only competition to the GN is the HTC Rezound.

gnex all the way. i wouldnt even consider the razr unless i really liked motoblur (which i do not). galaxy is a much better phone and in 1.5-2 years when your contract is coming to an end you will be more than likely be better off with the gnex as it will have better support.

you will be shocked in the difference in battery life you will get with the nexus as compared to iphone 4 (just like I was) but I am thrilled with this phone otherwise. Nexus all the way. The Razr felt so weird in my hand - too boxy.

let us know what happens. heard salesmen are pushing the RAZR so be aware when shopping that your needs aren't always in a salesmen's best interest.

That doesn't mean all Motorola phones suck and that someone should obviously be swayed. Sorry for your bag experience, but keep it in perspective as just that - your single bad experience.

My Droid X was an excellent device, I was extremely pleased with it except for the locked bootloader. Stellar build quality, radios that pulled reception in all kinds of crazy places, very nice screen and it was pretty speedy as well.

I was also looking at the Razr - mainly because of the physical build of the phone (the Kevlar backing, water resistant, and how thin it looked), but went with the Nexus because I wanted to have the flagship Google phone, and stock Android (which generally means faster updates, even if it wasn't a Nexus).

I've never regretted my decision to go with the Nexus, but it really depends on what you want from your phone. The Razr looks like a good solid phone.

Having played around with both, I chose the Razr. Why? Stellar build quality, and radio. Its all smooth and fast as hell.

Try the both of them out and see what one you like better.

Just yesterday I returned my RAZR and grabbed the GNex. I had the RAZR for almost 1 month- it was not worth the price of admission. I loved the form factor, very thin and light. However, the 3/4G switchover took forever- and would leave the phone data free. I also had issues with greyed out signal and no data and had to reboot to use the phone.
The wifi reception here at work was touch and go on the RAZR- and much better on the GNex.
The camera on the RAZR sucks. Just does. I just had a baby and wanted a phone I could capture some good shots with. The shutter is too slow, low light pics blow, and forget trying to use the flash...
The bluetooth was wonky too. It just seemed like the polish wasn't there on the RAZR.
Battery was atrocious
Only had the Nexus for a day, and on its first full charge it's already out performing the RAZR- and I've been playing on it A LOT.

I'm sure I'll have gripes about the Nexus too- it's just that going from one device to the other made me realize how bad the RAZR was.

I have always preferred Moto phones. Solid phones with great radios that work. If the Razr had a replaceable battery I might have chosen it due to Sammy history with GPS and radios.

But, I have the Gnex and the bad Sammy hasnt shown up. It is fine so far with an external battery charger and 2 extra batteries. I could not do that with the razr. i actually prefer the bionic due to battery and form factor. It has pretty much the same innyrds as the razr according to tear down stuff I have seen. Razr has a better camera.

I am not an HTC guy, but Rezound has done well, too.

As a moto guy, i am happy with the GNex so far.

When ICS comes, it's questionable about the soft buttons. You could have SEVEN buttons at the lower portion of the phone

ICS, duh, and that's a huge point
NFC unofficial support (free ten bucks from the google!)
Better display (720) on screen
MPT (can access internal media at the same time through the phone and while on usb)
Removable battery!

No separate HDMI port, need a separate aftermarket powered adapter
No sd card (micro) slot

There's probably a lot more, that's my 2 mins of thinking about it, and I've thought about returning and trying a RAZR

Again, not only try the phones in-store, but also think about how you will use it for as long as you own it. Do you want to connect the charger when it's on a car/windshield dock, or have it ready so you just dock and go? There's not an all-in-one dock for the SGN... yet.

Just trying to bring up some points, you probably have researched already. I love my SGN, and there's probably no chance that I'll swap to a RAZR.

Right, the latest OTA update did not address any of the network switching issues. However, this affects a lot of phones, but it seems to affect the SGN much much much less!

Agreed. Coming from an IP4- network switching was something I never dealt with. It's not a huge issue until it takes 3-4 min for the phone to be back online, and I'm not willing to live with that. If the Gnex doesn't meet my expectations, I'll be going back to Apple.

You do realize that

1. I was talking about the VZW SGN as being better on network switching on 4G
2. The RAZR is worse on switching, even after the latest OTA
3. The iphone isn't 4G LTE

So you can just keep your RAZR or SGN in 3G mode and compare. You obviously don't need 4G LTE.

Hate to sounds so harsh, but when these opined posts come up and they miss the facts, it's hard not to present them.

Again, OP needs to decide, he was just asking for RECOMMENDATIONS, and certainly not DECISIONS. Nothing more nothing less.
