Help Do i need to root my phone in order to download swype and its themes?

Made a thread about rooming a while ago and i decided to hold off on doing so for now. I was really tempted to do so and i was excited that the quick one step root became available but sadly it does not work for the mac. Anyways im interested in using swype and im just wondering do i need to root my galaxy nexus first in order to install swype? also do i need to root in order to add swype themes?

No... Swype is a beta keyboard that doesn't require root in any way. There's currently a bug that has the official version incompatible with ICS/Gnex. Root won't fix that. Word is an official fix is lined up for the end of the month.

However, theb1rdm4n at XDA devs made an updated apk that'll work. Do a google search for it.

No, just search xda for "Da Swypes" and click the mirror link in the first post, download one of the files that says Galaxy nexus and install the apk as normal. However, these aren't themes that go over top of the regular apk, they are the whole thing, so you must uninstall other versions of Swype first.
