I hv installed Android 2.3.7 on samsung galaxy ace..

I have flashed via cwm using grifs cm7 (from xda) and its update. Only probs I have found are battery life not as good, maps doesn't work (navigation does) and video camera has no flash (camera does) other apps fix this. Everything else is fantastic. Performance is amazing, no lag on angry birds, (quadrant score is 1790 (compared to 565 on stock with 2.3.3 and 1075 with 2.3.6) flash works. Nearly all apps can be put to sd.

Stable enough to use daily and will work well enough till we get official cm7.2

Make a Cwm back up and if you don't like you can always restore! Let me know what u do!

Edit - I recallibrated battery and lifee now better

i just dont get why use a rom when somethings wont work? stock roms may not be the fastest but at least everything on my device is working eh? i may just be being closed minded but i dont get it.

well i can think of a few reasons for myself.
1) the manufacturers are slow to release updated stock roms to older devices, well...even to new devices
2) the custom roms actually have increased funtionality (most of the time), adhoc wifi connect, profiles, etc
3) they operate faster
4) sometimes you may not realize it, but everything may not be working fine in the stock rom.

BUT, I agree with you, if the device is doing everything you want out of the box, then no need to root or custom rom.

Hi. New poster. Thanks for your guide-thread ;)

This is exactly the question I am asking myself. I've been looking into rooting my device in order to improve battery life and possibly add a few extra dimensions to the functionality of it. (Or at the very least upgrading to 2.3.4/5 via Kies)

I've spoken to a couple of people that claim to have improved their battery life by a day due to over-clocking and killing off bloatware etc. I'm looking around these boards to see the viability of that on the Ace.

There are a few irritations with the stock 2.3.3 I'm using - app-passwords and power control (which I've d/loaded apps to improve, however they appear to make the phone lag a little) - but I'm not overly obsessed with the speed that it loads off the SD card or flicks between apps.

Tbh it appears there can be enough irritating issues or potential problems from flashing the device which right now are totally dissuading me from changing 2.3.3 at all.

Isnt custom roms just bundling apps all in one and changing themes? eg. I seen roms come with BLN which is supposed to be a app you pay for.

How are the people making the custom roms getting 2.3.7 as its not available anywhere for download as stock.

How would they make it based on 2.3.7 if no stock as a source?

There is currently no stock version of 2.3.7 for the galaxy ace. 2.3.6 is the latest official one. You'll find this was possible because people have ported unofficially the AOSP 2.3.7 (in the form of cyanagenmod) to the ace. 2.3.7 is available on other phones.
