Recently I have been having some problems when playing music through headphones. The problems happen no matter which music app I am using (I have tried 4 or 5) Firstly every now and then it will stop playing randomly when the phone is locked ( i think this might be a problem with the jack but not 100%). Secondly and a bigger problem is that when the music app is running my phone will randomly start to ring the last person that called my phone, this happens when flicking through songs on the app also when locked and playing music. Any ideas on what is causing it? first problem isnt too bad but the second is starting to become very inconvenient. Help will be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums - thanks for joining!

For your first issue, have you tried usnig some other headphones? I had a pair that were doing something similar and I think that it was something to do with the wire being knackered.

For your second issue, I haven't heard of that before... is it the stock music player that you are using that is causing the issue? You could find that, by changing the music app, you end the issue...

Hope this is of some help... let us know if you are still having problems and we can try other solutions.

I still have this problem but for me its because the phone always considers Every headphone I connect as a headset, so one with button control/mic this is why I think it randomly does those things because a slight movement in the cable causes the phone to think a command is sent to it :$ it's very annoying, I use an app called headset blocker which disables the phone from completely detect an headset thus disabling these commands. However in my case the music player on my lockscreen doesn't work with enable headset blocker.. so if anyone has an alternative solution please share it with us :D ( p.s. my English can be dodgy so sorry if you couldn't understand what I wrote.)

This is a problem that has been discussed in the past and seems to be caused by earphones being mistakenly identified by the phone as a headset with controls. I'm surprised to hear you are experiencing this if you are running the latest firmware as it's an issue that I believed had been put right quite a while ago - can you give us the details of your firmware version please.

Here is a thread for you to look at. It provides nested links to other threads on the subject and should explain both the problem and the workarounds.

yeah but that still comes down to 'headset blocker ' which disables my music player on my lockscreen

Thanks for your help. Through the link that was given i found the headset blocker app which stops any unwanted signals coming from your headset (I think..) it seems to have solved the problem (plus the music player on my lockscreen still works). I found that this happened with every music app I have used, i went through about 4 or 5 trying to fix it so i a problem with the firmware. i think i have the latest version available (2.3.5) there isnt any more available for me. I could be wrong im not completely clued up. thanks for the help anyways, the problem has been fixed.

It sounds like this hasn't proved the case for sjakobson, but I was going to give you my experience...

With my phone's original firmware (v2.1?), I had this problem and installed Headset Blocker as a workaround, but since the last two or three updates, I found the issue had gone, so I uninstalled Headset Blocker and haven't had any recurrence of the problem. I'm not sure why it should be different for you, and the only suggestions I can come up with are gently blowing clean compressed air (at a suitable pressure, so probably from an aerosol designed for this purpose) into the connector on the phone in case it is dirty. Then maybe a dab of contact cleaner on the earphone's jack as well.
