Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

So I've always ran with Ondemand as my governor and remember with Interactive was all the rage with my OG Droid. What are the benefits again? I'm generally looking for max. battery life.

The Interactive governor has been re-worked from the past according to what I'm reading. idk how much of this is true, but with every kernel I've tried on the GN the ondemand gov has been a dawg. On the GN Interactive has a screen-off profile built in and keeps the GN's cpu at 350-700MHz.

Imoseyon's InteractiveX governor on 1.2.0 (iirc it is the same on 1.2.1 and 1.3.0) has a hotplug feature built in so when the screen turns off cpu0 (or cpu1 I forget) completely disables. Upon wake, it re-enables. So it's a single core cpu phone when asleep. I use 1.2.0 with InteractiveX governor and no overclocking (not needed on the GN imo) and no under-volting. It is under-volted out of the box already. About my battery life...I don't worry about it ever! :)

completely off topic at the moment, but I just had to let my fellow Nexicans know about a new ICS only feature in the TinyFlashlight app. the update applied yesterday will now allow you to shake your phone on the lockscreen to activate the rear LED! simple, but incredibly useful. i have always kept a flashlight widget on my homepage, but it is so nice to be able to turn it on without having to unlock. when you need a light, you generally want it as fast as possible!

Been using this app for 2 years now and used the shake to wake last night just to show off. It was awesome sauce!

And while we are off the kernel talk topic, I am excited to say that my Mc Donald's breakfast was on Google today. Activated GWallet whilst running Roman's AOKP 14 and got my 10 dollar prepaid card. Even added 20 bucks that I haven't spent yet. 3 people in the lobby and one of the ladies behind the counter asked what phone I had and "how I did that?"

Awesome juice.

Speaking of kernels I am using Franco's #10 nightly with great results. No screenshot (gotta get my imgur up and going again) but I lost almost nothing overnight!

Pic to follow.

NOt sure if this is the right place to post - maybe you guys can redirect me if it isn't...
I am a new smartphone user and my first is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Bell). Previously a BB World phone user, sans data package or wifi connection. So this is a steep learning curve for me - what I find most frustrating is the lack of pull down menu options and lack of intuitiveness. Like how do I send a text to more than one person at a time? How do I send a text to email? If I try to text myself it doesn't find me in the address book - yet I am at the top of my addressbook list. Yesterday I was composing a text to my own phone number and after I changed screens to check on something it was sending it to a different person in my addressbook. If I want to "go forward" from a screen on the web, there is no "forward" button, just a back (curved arrow) button on the bottom of the phone. WHen I go to compose an email in my online webmail and start typing, it doesn't show up anywhere in the text box....I am getting a little frustrated. HELP!

LED Flashlight was the first app I ever bought, back in November 2009. Until then all "flashlight" apps just whited the screen and that was your flashlight. Only then did the LED come into use. Well, it has just been replaced! Shaking the phone to turn on the LED? Who thinks this stuff UP? It's BRILLIANT!

Thanks for letting us all know about it! :D

I'm sure you will get tons of responses from people with the GNex (which I am still waiting to buy), but welcome aboard. Moving from BB to Android was a shock to my system, but after a few days I was much happier without having to navigate through layers of BB menus. You will discover that the Android system as actually MORE intuitive. To text multiple people, just enter the address, select it, then start entering another address. I'm not sure about texting to email, but I will venture a guess that if you enter an email address as opposed to a number, it will send to the email address. Browser "forward" depends on your browser. I use Dolphin HD and the menu button brings up the option to go forward, refresh, etc. Not sure what the stock GNex browser provides but I'm sure it's there and that someone will help out.

Okay thank you! - i see , if I tap on the "to" field at the end of the first phone number and start typing it will bring up a choice of contacts. thanks

When I try to text to email it says it is an MMS and ends up getting stuck in "sending" mode - never goes through. I do not have a data plan, but am connected via wifi to our home network....do I need a data package to send text to email? Merci Beaucoup!!

To send an MMS yes with the stock app. Email no you do not need a data plan. However, I think there are apps that will allow to send MMS via wifi....I know there are for iApple aka the iTouch which has no cell radio :D

How do I UV Franco's #10? I have SetCPU (for 2 years now) but I haven't used it since the LG Ally 2.1 days...

jmar

Open up setcpu, click the tab up top VOL TAG, and start tinkering. I'd advise you to follow some sort of starting point/guide so you don't go frozen and have to battery pull :p

Also DO NOT check the "set on boot" option until you've thoroughly tested your tweaks for a couple of days. Just remember when/if you reboot at anytime during your testing to go back into setcpu and change the VOL TAG values. Once you're golden you can select the "set on boot" and you won't have to fool with it again.

I'll come right back and edit this post with some starting point values for you :)

EDIT: as of #10 I see franco suggests leaving everything at default as UV is built into the kernel. Matter of fact UV might be disabled in #10 I haven't tried it yet. If it is available you could tweak down the mV's if you wanted to tinker. I'd suggest trying 25-50mV tweaks at a time play with for an hour, run a stress test, whatever and see if you get a "sleep of death" aka screen not coming back on or a random freeze. When you run into an issue bump the voltage back up 25mV's and test again to make sure. It's tedious, but fun too!

Here are the default stock kernel mV's so you know where they started at:

1200MHZ = 1380mV
920MHz = 1317mV
700MHz = 1203mV
350MHz = 1025mV

Values I used safely with #7.1

1200MHz = 1175mV
920MHz = 1050mV
700MHz = 975mV
350MHz = 850mV

Taken from franco: SetCPU profiles not at all, they only hurt the device's performance/battery. Everything that is needed for top performance/battery it's already set by default (in my point of view of course).

Okay, what about with lean kernel? Have 1.4 stable but haven't flashed.

EDIT: in SetCPU using Franco's #10 VolTag is not available. Guess he did disable it. Probably on purposed based on your response. Is this tab available when running lean kernel?
