We need to make Motorola realize that they cannot break promises and not expect major backlashings from their consumers. They promised to have unlocked bootloaders by the second half of 2011 if carriers let them, and guess what? Its December 31st, 2011. No unlocked bootloader. HTC has unlocked the bootloader for the Thunderbolt and other Verizon devices, so it IS NOT VERIZON. It is Motorola. Let your voice be heard: "Unlock the RAZR Bootloader!"

Quoting them will probably be the MOST effective. And mentioning HTC has unlocked their Verizon phones.

Let's assume Motorola has sold 200,000 RAZRs. You really think they are going to care about 1.5% of the people whining about wanting an unlocked bootloader? I doubt it.

Furthermore, it's NOT Motorola that is the problem. It's VERIZON. They are the ones who told Motorola to not unlock the bootloader.

Not only does this petition and the Facebook posts represent a small minority of RAZR owners, they are targeting the WRONG COMPANY.

So yeah, this isn't going to do anything.

Then how do you explain the GSM versions NOT verizon and the people in other countries such as england/ germany/ Iran who purchased a GSM version strait from Motorola or other company WITH a locked bootloader? Its not Verizon, It is motorola. If it was verizon, HTC/LG/ Nexus would all be locked still.

The fuss is that we don't believe them. Motorola has failed to honour their promises time and time again.
Now they are rewriting statements that were made.

From the "Ice Cream and Bootloaders" post they have, they have changed the bootloader statement from:

"It is our intention to offer an unlockable/relockable bootloader, currently found on MOTOROLA XOOM, in future software releases starting in late 2011"

Locked or unlocked, what is it that you cannot do with it being locked?

Can you not make calls?
Can you not send texts?
Can you not send emails?
Can you not use data connectivity?
Can you not flash new firmwares?
etc., etc.

What you are doing is just complaining for the sake of complaining. VZW is a horrible carrier, same as most US carriers and unless you make them believe that a locked bootloader oes not help sell the phone to businesses and security-aware people, nothing will happen.

If you have ever worked in a serious business you would know that this kind of lobbying does not work. Corporations have no obligation to listen to you and will not bend their rules because someone likes playing with their phone and wants to flash a different ROM every 3 days as he is bored.

They produce the phone to call, use data, send texts - to make money, and not for someone to have fun flashing ROMs. The ability to flash ROMs will bring no money for VZW or Motorola. They will only lose money, because a careless user will brick the phone and take it for exchange saying it just stopped working.

It doesn't matter what you do with your phone, or what they designed it for, or what they want. The point of this whole thing was for anyone to be able to do what they want with their device. VZW is an expensive carrier and motorola charges a nice chunk of money for these devices. At least they didn't have CIQ on these devices but if they did, you'd need root to freeze it, or remove it.

I don't get the "roll over" and do nothing mindset of some people. It's like people are to fragile, their egos are too sensitive to sign a friggin petition. It's like people that complain about their government but don't vote. People that hate what is happening in their neighborhood, but don't show up at community meetings.

This whole thing petition thing may not go anywhere... but at least people care enough to do something! The point is to "make our selves heard"! We can't do it if people keep making excuses so they can roll over. It's true, our devices have been purchased, there's nothing we can do but be a pain in their rear until they change their stand and honor their promise.

I'll make it easy for you... if you like the ability to load custom ROMs, kernels, themes on your device... sign the petition.

If you enjoy root access on your device and don't want it broken with every system update, sign the petition.

If you just like freedom, and don't like others telling you what you can or can't do... sign the petition.

If you like having choices, sign the petition

If you like having freedom, sign the petition

If you hate Big Brother, sign the petition

If you like Coca Cola, sign the petition

If you like Pepsi, sign the petition

Progress of what? There has been no announcement as to when ICS will be ready so there is no need for any porgress.
