DHD smashed a month ago and just getting new one delivered tomorrow.

Havent rooted in a long time and when I did so I used windows command prompt. I have just looked now and see there's a newer method using linux. I use linux as my everyday box so would like to know who's used this method and whether its easier than windows?

cheers

Hiya Rhod - long time no see mate!!

The method you're talking about (http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-...guide-dhd-all-things-root-roundup-sticky.html) is a one click does all trick. It works best if you run in a linux environment, so you should be fine.

Have a look at the thread by El Pres and then have a read of the stuff that's linked... it is much more straight forward than when we talked you through it before!!

sick of the old nokia...not so sick of its 2 week battery life tho :)

I know what you mean!

looking forward to seeing what new roms are around. last one i had was miui although cm7 was always a close second

CM7 is now @ CM7.1 (that you can use with a moded kernel and undervolting scripts to get better battery life)... there are a couple of beta releases of ICS out at present - have had a go, but am waiting for them to have a really stable version out (at least until CM9 is released).

There are a couple of newer Sense based ROM's out, but I've not really had much of a go... don't like Sense.

thanks for the heads up. just had a quick look at the new rooting script, have you used it before? The PD98IMG folder only has a txt file in it so im assuming i just download PD98IMG.zip and drop it in this folder before running the script? if that's all then this method is 10x easier!

**don't worry, just read some of the script and i think it locates the PD98IMG.zip file in the tools/dngrd folder.

I ran it off osx so it was pretty similar. All you need to do is run the .sh file and it will do everything for you. No need to move any files around as it will locate the ones it needs from the folders they were already in

But read the 'effin manual' that's in the zip a few times so you're absolutely sure :)

By all accounts, this is the most important step - given what me and EP said to you last time you rooted, you'll have done that by the time you see my post :)

If you get massively stuck though, come back n speak to others that have used it (CDPlant, etc.) - I think that the people guy who made the tool also gets involved if you're stuck (as long as you've read the manual)!

Looks like I've got my hands on another DHD! It is currently locked to 3mobile. This script unlock phones as well yeah cause I know the older windows commands you had to do a bit extra to get rid if carrier info...?

On my phone after rebooting the phone I get HTC Logo and then after a short while it writes "quietly brilliant" under it, I know you can replace the second bit by downloading a boot animation.zip of your liking and putting it here : internal memory/system/media . But I advise you to backup the original bootanimation.zip by either copying to your PC or renaming it to bootanimation.back

P.s. when you install a new ROM there will be a new startup screen anyway.

I still have the 3 logo appear too. You can flash a new Splash screen to get rid of that, but I've never tried to do it.

There might be some info on xda in the thread of the ROM you are using

Splash screens require ENG S-OFF too in case you hadnt already done it.

I have it but for some reason flashing my splash in recovery won't work
