Protection necessary?

Hello just like many of you, I am a new Exhibit II user. I am sure there are many people that want to protect their investment just as much as I do. So my question is, do you think its necessary to get a screen protector for this phone? Or even a case?

What kind of screen does this phone have? I have tried and looked everywhere, but I can't seem to find out what type of screen this has. I don't think its Gorilla Glass, but I don't think its plastic either.

And do you think you need to have a case on the phone as well? Probably doesn't hurt anyways...

That's the very first thing I did, I bought a screen protector (a universal one) couldn't find one for this phone right away.
I wouldn't take any chances, It doesn't appear that this phone has Gorilla Glass it feels a bit more cheap, if you push on the screen down.. it flexes, feels somewhat similar to the Optimus V screen.... But I myself dont know exactly what type of screen it is.

As for a case, yes too. The phone to me felt very slippery, very tough to keep holding it firm in your hand. I ran into some close calls before I put a case on it.
I bought a Hard White Case from Amazon and it looks great.

I would definitely recommend it.

I coulnd't find any screen protectors for this but I only looked at Amazon.com and it's been a week or more since I looked. I don't understand how there can't be one yet. I know the phone is new but it's not THAT new.

There are cases for it on Amazon.com and I bought one. I wasn't sure at first if I liked it but it has grown on me. It's a smokey grey (kinda dark) color. It 'sticks' to the phone well and you can still read the Samsung and T-Mobile logo through it from the back (but it's a dark enough color to hide the blue of the back cover). The only thing I don't like about it is that the buttons for the on/off and volume rocker are not cut out and it really cuts down on the tactile feel of those buttons. My last phone was like that but it had much more pronounced buttons so it worked but here it's not working as well. I'm tempted to get my X-Acto knife and cut them out.

It was cheap and over all is a good case.

Here's the link:

Note that it doesn't look as dark as it does in the picture (of it on the phone) but it doesn't look as light as the other picture of it (in the packaging).

As for the screen itself ... there is a thread here about it already:

I actually just left the original screen protector that came with the phone on, been on since the day I bought it, almost 2 months, still holding up good, couple very minor scratches, not noticable with the back light on. But the second this screen protector is no good anymore, I will definitely be grabbing another one immediately. They are so cheap, especially on eBay, I would never take the chance of getting a noticable scratch on the screen, it would drive me nuts. I also went out and grabbed a case immediately after purchasing as well. I personally can't afford to be spending another $200 on another phone if I was to drop this and break it, so I'm not taking any chances. Plus, in my opinion, a case makes it look and feel much better.

I agree about the case. the phone is thin and slippery but with a case it feels more hefty. I just got the hard black rubberized one. I also bought screen protectors but I would rather not use one if the samsung "fortified" glass was scratch resistent. my main concern is constantly putting and pulling out of my pocket with keys/coins and whatever rubbing against it.

I would imagine your keys would definitely scratch it. I use a belt clip and I still wouldn't not use a screen protector.

I never put a screen protector on my last Android and in a year I only got one tiny scratch on it that was way off to the very side of it. I also never put one on my iPod Touch (when I had it ... sold it off a while ago).

To be honest I don't like the idea of something messing up the quality of the screen by covering it up.

I personally don't see how it would mess up the quality of the screen at all.

Well it's a layer between you and the screen so obviously it has to degrade the quality of the screen to some degree. As a result it is NOT for me.

I can understand why people do it but I'm an adult and I'm 'easy' with my equipment and I'd rather not have it.

Lol, it's an extremely thin layer and clear, I VERY highly doubt that any quality degrading through that very thin piece of clear plastic is going to be visible to the naked eye, I actually even highly doubt it would be noticable even if you held two up side by side, one having a screen protector and the other not.

I am also an adult and pretty easy with my phone, but it only takes one single accident to put a nice scratch in your screen, with a screen protector, you simply remove the screen protector and put a new one on, without one, you have to replace the whole screen or buy a new phone to remove that scratch. That's why they call an accident an accident.

I'm easy too. But I accidentally dropped my last phone and ended up with a large scratch across the screen. So I bought a screen protector with this phone and I've noticed absolutely no difference in the sensitivity of my screen. Iv'e never had any issues thus far. I have a matte screen protector to reduce the glare and I actually prefer the texture of the screen protector over the actual screen itself. :)

Well I wear glasses and the slightest of smudges or lint etc. degrades 'the image' so I'd rather not get a screen protector. I don't buy that they 'don't degrade the image at all' argument. Maybe I'm being silly but I have experience wearing glasses and TRUST YOU ME the slightest thing makes a difference.

If you were saying that that was my argument, I don't think I ever really said that... Degrade enough that you can notice it, that I might argue... I mean it really doesn't matter to me how you keep your phone, but to say that a screen protector degrades the image when someone is looking for opinions on whether or not to use stuff like that, I think is a bit much. I'd much rather have my phones image extremely slightly degraded due to a screen protector than end up with a permanent scratch that would DEFINITELY degrade the image on my phone.

Temporary scratch on a removable plastic = cheap, very easy to remove and replace
Permanent scratch on stock glass (or whatever the screen is made of) = hard to replace (If it's even available) and pricey.

Maybe I'm OCD about these things but I just covered my whole phone in a clear skin. I like having the option to replace any dings or scratches my phone gets. I have the same full body clear skin for my Mac too. This skin produces a sheen instead of the nice matte aluminum, but I like my dinged up yellowing protector opposed to the matte aluminum having all those dings.

Temporary ugly is better than permanent ugly.

I'm using the same protection. It's a must have I think as the phone feels must less slippery than without a protection.

there are screen protectors for it, I got these from Amazon
Amazon.com: 2x Samsung Exhibit 2 II 4G SGH-T679 Premium Clear LCD Screen Protector Cover Guard Shield Protective Film Kit (2 Pieces): Cell Phones & Accessories

they're pretty good, but I couldn't get a couple bubbles out
I also got a case, the back of the phone is so slippery without it

I let the original protection until I got this one. I messed up with the first screen (got some dust which created a few bubbles) but I got the second one right (by being quick and staying really close from the phone when I removed the first plastic layer). There's just a small bubble near the camera as the camera hole is slightly on the left (it's a design flaw). Overall, I'm pretty happy I got this even if it's not perfect. I would get the same again without hesitations if I can't find a better one next one I need it.

My Exhibit II usually resides in a combination wallet / smartphone protector.

That, plus a screen protector, seems to do the trick. I also have a silicone case to slip in into if I feel the need to go outdoors with it without my wallet. However that rarely happens: if I'm on the go with the smartphone, I'm usually wearing something the wallet can slip into, or have my laptop bag with me.

Here's another case for under $3. I have one of these and the Qubits from Amazon, and I prefer the ebay one because the sides are textured for less slip. Both function equally well.
