Help XE turning itself off

hi everyone

I picked up a new Sensation XE a couple of weeks and am really impressed.
However I've noticed that probably once a day, it will shut itself off. to turn it on again, I have to do a battery pull as pressing the on/off button has no effect.

this seems to happen randomly, rather than after any particular process/app use.

on a couple of occasions it triggers ' report error to HTC', which I always do.

could this be linked to an app I've downloaded or is it a known error?

thanks alackman

does installing a new launcher require rooting the handset?

being a newbie to Android, can you explain what a new launcher will do? is it just a different UI (ie. different shortcut logos, menu layout, status bar, etc.)?

:)

Hi, no need to root, just an install from market. Search launchers, its worth trying a few to see the ones you prefer as it is a matter of personal preference. I use go launcher ex, used to have launcher pro and I know adw launcher is popular although I wasn't so keen. There are lots more. I think there is even a poll on here somewhere.

You're right its just that, a different overlay. Sense is still there and doesn't disappear completely. Some say that the reason they get an htc phone is for the sense widgets whicj you can't use on different launchers, but they have their own (some free, some paid) but you can of course change themes (again some free, some paid) which effects icons etc, I currently have a transparent theme. This is the great thing about android, the possibilities of customization without rooting.

Every time you add something like this to your phone it feels new again.

Make sure you have a clean slate on sense ie widgets etc as otherwise they will continue to run and drain battery.

Enjoy, and feel free to ask a anything else if I've not explained.

ahh thanks alackman!

daft question - how do i revert to the original launcher? i've not downloaded another yet, but just in case when i do!

do you think it'll be a resolved issue once ICS is released (whenever that may be?)

If you uninstalled it would automatically go back to sense, or there is a setting that allows you to turn it off as your default launcher.

I don't know about ics, I've not really paid much attention to sense and its development since I found out about different launchers when I had my desire.
