Root To the newcomers heres the name of the game

And one more thing MAKE A BACK UP!!! Trust me and ask anyone back ups will save a lot of head ache. I make a back up once a week and delete the previous back up so it always stays up to date.

is it possible to use someone else's backup of the stock rom? i lost my stock backup that was saved on internal and it is causing issues with un-rooting...

this is a good question for a Q&A section for LG Esteem, as long as i get a positive answer lol

Yes, it is possible, as long as you are both using the same recovery.
I use RZR, which isn't compatible with CWM. It's not hard to switch from 1 to the other, but keep it in mind.

If you make a back up you can often laugh at disaster. HA! I have a backup! :p

Not always, there's stuff that still happens that's extreme, but with a backup 95% of crap that would normally make your phone unusable is an easy 1 or 2 steps away from having your phone back as if nothing happened. Whew!

Now you may have questions like "How do I use this backup which I made and now need?" But that's a whole lot better than saying, "Uhm, I bricked my phone, Metro won't take it back because it's rooted, and I have no backup."

hey guys, im a huge fan of android forums.. as some of you know i am originally an xda member and have done some work with the g1 over there.

now im no moderator and im not as advanced of a developer as most people but there is one small thing i did learn from xda and think it would be a great value to this forum...

i feel that it is unneccessary to have roms & themes as 'stickies' to be listed on top of device forum, i think that only important threads are really worth being labeled as a 'sticky' such as: the rooting guide, the exit recovery thread(huuuge lifesaver), maybe a recovery thread with details and such about the 2 custom recoveries or whatever... but you get what im trying to say lol

and please guys i hope nobody is offended by this, specially pg and mt!! i seriously mean no disrespect at all to you guys!! im just saying its a smarter way of laying out the devices forum... keep important/useful threads as sticky's so people can find them easy!! (such as this thread)

this should be the absolute first thing people see lol

I hope someone reads this lol i didn't want to start another useless thread for a dumb 'think out loud' moment

You are. Many people are lazy enough that they'll rather create a thread for their problem than searching for it (yes, its true). And by sticking the MOST important thread it'll make it easy, right? Well let me tell you, I don't know if you are aware but there Is already a thread that has ALL the useful threads linked to one, and its called Root Guide. Thanks to our awesome Mod Shine, Nutt and others that thread has all the guides, fixes, rooms, kernels, and etc. But unfortunately they are still people who create threads despite the "Guide" thread already being created.

About the Roms being sticked, I agree with you but also like the fact of those threads to be sticked, why? Because we all know those threads are being Hot/High in terms of demand. The first thing people want to see in all things root are ROMs and Kernels now that we are experiencing a wonderful development. We first see if there is a new rom or an update. You don't want those expected threads to be brought down by minors thread because they are not sticked thus you loosing the chance to search and see whats new and whats updated. Well you'll get used you it. I really like seeing all these staff doing their job by organizing the threads and post. Hey I was in a same boat so I know how tedious it could get.

Cheers JeyD

haha yeah i agree... i mean i dont hate the way its setup or anything... its just as i was skimming thought the pages of threads i seen a lot of repeated questions... so thats wat made me think it was a good idea to bring it up lol but i also see your point, supply and demand lol thats how this country works and will always work haha

at least the first sticky thread should say 'USE THE SEARCH!!!!!!' lolol.. thanks for the in-depth reply :D not gonna lie i wasn't too excited about reading ALL of it (lazy) haha but i guess thats how you felt after looking at my long ass post hahah

No matter what a title is of a sticky most people don't read at all. They just make a post and want they're question answered without having to do any looking or research and want it hand fed. I mean look at the all things root guide with direct links to the main root pros and look how many views it has in a pose to to repeat or similar threads that are posted or questions posted in threads that have something to do with another topic then the thread. Not saying its an entirely bad thing because it keeps the forum going but it does make it a little more difficult for the ones that actually read post to find an answer because of the non related things. I have people message me all the time about things that aren't on the first page of the forum, but in the all things root guide because they just skimmed the first page and didn't see it. I of course direct them directly to the post, for example, the Unroot batch file thread and help them but also give them a link to all things root guide for future reference and tell them any thing like ROMs, roots, unroots, etc,etc will have direct to them in their to make it easier and faster to find. Not that I have a problem with PMs at all, so don't hesitate to send one ;) even if you think its a 'stupid' question. Only stupid question is one that's not asked.

PS. Guides not Mods. The Mods are the scary ones in red! Ahaha :D na their good people and not ego maniacs with the feeling like they are God or something like that like a lot of Mods on other sites.
