Assistance on Android selection pls

I think the Sensation is a good phone, although personally I prefer the SGS2. The Sensation (and the SGS2) should meet your requirements. You can install alternate browsers, keyboards (Swiftkey X is one of my favorites with arrows), to make Android to your liking.

the installable keyboards is VERY interesting.
Can this be done on most androids?

Sensation XE would be a better choice if you can get one.

Checking specs on GSMArena.com - GSM phone reviews, news, opinions, votes, manuals and more... (which seems to be the best place I have found for checking specs), the XE does have faster processor and more internal memory, but it seems to be slower data rates?

XE:
Data GPRS Up to 80 kbps EDGE Up to 236.8 kbps Speed HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot Bluetooth Yes, v3.0 with A2DP USB Yes, microUSB (MHL) v2.0

non XE:
Data GPRS Up to 114 kbps EDGE Up to 560 kbps Speed HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot Bluetooth Yes, v3.0 with A2DP USB Yes, microUSB (MHL) v2.0

In reality, will I be able to utilise the extra data rates in UK?

thanks.

I'm working my way steadily away from a decision!

I discovered the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has a great resolution screen, but am finding a lot of complaints on that and the Sensation XE.

I know people with issues are generally more vocal than satisfied customers, but would it be fair to say both models are 'sorted' now, or still suffering issues?

Well, it does depend on who you talk to.

No smartphone vendor is without issues. Generally though, I have been more satisifed with my Samsung devices as of late than with my HTC devices, although both are excellent in their own right.

I lean towards recommend Samsung more because they're better designed, imho than HTC at the moment, and they don't lock the bootloaders which is a bonus.

My HTC Evo 3D gave me the black screen of death, and my faith in HTC Sense has been shaken. I rooted my Evo 3D and put a custom ROM on it and it's been working well since. But the Evo 3D feels like a brick compared to my SGS2. So I would really ask "why not Samsung" right now...
