Root Triumph gets very hot!!

I rooted my triumph and flashed CM7 last week. Ive noticed when I use wifi tethering with my labtop, with it plugged in, that the triumph gets very hot. I have a temperature widget for my battery and its gotten as high as 108 degrees. Is this normal? Normally without the wifi on, it ranges between 85 to 95 degrees. I've also used tethering with the usb and its never gotten over 100 degrees as of yet, even with it plugged in. Ive also noticed that using the usb with the labtop the speed is good, but when I use wifi, it slows to a crawl, especially if I have more than one window open. I can have multiple windows open when using the usb tethering and the speed stays the same. Also, when I use wifi tethering, it disconnects every so often, sometimes repeatdly. Does anyone have any idea why I'm having these problems?

When I turn my phone off when its plugged in, then I turn it on, it freezes up, it wont restart or do anything. I have to take the battery out, then it turns on without any problems. Would this problem and the fact that my triumph gets overly hot when plugged in and wifi tether on be interrelated? Also, Ive noticed at times when I turn the phone off, it will show an outline of the battery on the screen with a red lightning bolt inside it. Does this mean anything? It doesnt happen all the time.

On another subject, when I open up windows on my phone to surf the internet and then I want to close all the windows, on the stock rom, I could just hit menu, then an option would pop up that says close all windows. With this CM7 rom, there is no option for that. I have to back out of all the windows I get into. Is there an easier option of closing the browser windows without having to back all the way out of them

Yes, having wifi + 3G transferring data at the same time will generate a lot of heat. Plus if there's a runnaway app in the background it could get even hotter. You can try to lower the maximum frequency to 576 Mhz or undervolt using Incredicontrol, or do it the old fashioned way, put it in the fridge, outside, or somewhere dry & cold.

The browser in CM7 is more updated, and Google got rid of the exit button. You can kill the app (like any other app) by holding the back key (it's a setting in CM settings).

I had that problem on my Optimus V. Try what whyzor said. That should work great.

I personally wouldn't put it somewhere too cold... Electronics aren't made to withstand colder temperatures... If you can get the phone to room temperature that would be ideal...

The risk to having it too cold is the condensation that forms when you bring it back to room temperature. But if the phone is outside and it's generating a lot of heat constantly already, the temperature difference shouldn't be that great when bringing it into the room again for condensation to be a problem.

Moisture is the real problem. Also batteries aren't as strong in cold environments, but if it's plugged in that shouldn't be an issue either.

Valid point... Unless you live somewhere humid... also putting in the fridge or freezer is going to create condensation...

Also if you want to mod your phone to have a liquid nitrogen cooling system make sure there are no leaks lol

I use wifi the entire time im at my home, and i am OC'd to around 1600 on the interactivex gov. my battery stays around 27 degree's 50 when it heats up, not noticed it ever getting up to 100

Thanks for all the feedback. When I have wifi tether on without it plugged in, it doesnt get that hot, only when its plugged in does it get really hot. Like I said, its been up to 108 degrees with it plugged in, is that normal or will I damage it by being this hot. When I plug the phone to the labtop and use usb tether, it doesnt get that hot. Is this normal for wifi when it is plugged in to get hotter than using usb tether when plugged in? Also, is wifi slower than using the usb tether? When I use wifi tether, it lags alot when loading web pages, compared to the usb tether that loads rather quickly. Also, is it normal for the wifi to disconnect, sometimes repeatedly?

Just using wifi or wifi tethering? If your just using wifi then its not going to heat up as much as if you were using wifi + 3g (wifi tether).

Its when Im using wifi tethering. But it doesnt get that hot if I dont have it plugged in. Only when its plugged in does it get extremely hot.

Well when it is plugged in there is extra voltage going to the phone compared to when its not so yea it is going to heat up more... And wifi is a lot slower than a wired connection... so yes a usb connection is going to be faster... Just like using wifi compared to Ethernet... I have high speed comcast and when using wifi I get 10-15mps ish compared to 20+ when connected to Ethernet... So using a usb tether is better speed wise and it doesn't use as much resources as a wifi tether is going to...

Wifi and 3g simultaneously requires quite a bit of current from the battery. When it's plugged in, it's also charging, and the battery is also -drawing- current at about the same rate. This causes more than normal amount of heat. Heat is generally the biggest thing that shortens the life of a lithium ion battery. I've seen much higher temps than you're seeing on a DroidX... not to say that's good or anything... Just try to take it easy and don't let it spend long periods much over 100 without some cool down time.
Get a couple of those cheap Anker batteries off Ebay or something.

One quick question, How do I transfer my files that are on my sd card (currently in my phone) to a bigger sd card. Can I move the files (by mounting the usb) to my desktop, then insert the bigger card and move them back? Also, on my current sd card, I have recovery files on there, if this procedure works, it wont affect the integrity of those files, will it?

Yep and they won't mess with anything... Just drag drop then copy over and insert your bigger sd card and your golden

I transfered all my files over to the bigger sd card including my ringtones and alarms. But now when I try to set a new ringtone or alarm under settings, it just shows the stock ringtones and alarms. How do I get the phone to recognize the ringtones and alarms that are on my sd card??

You may have to run the media scanner... Either download an app to do it for you or reboot your phone.
