Help Voice commands over Blue tooth

Hello All,

I just switched over from windows 7 phone to android. I liked windows alot but the application market was super underdeveloped, which made me stray away.

Here is my question:

in my car, i would connect my phone via blue tooth and i had a list of voice commands i could use "call _____" "text_____"

now with my skyrocket, my phone connects to my car, but when i try to access the voice option, it says its not available on this device. I learned i can hold down the search button and say all these commands, but that takes away from the ability to drive safely.

any insight on this? am i doing something wrong? is there an app or patch for this? thanks.

what car make model or stereo information and I will see what details I can find.

I know this had been an all around issue on a number of media devices, headphones, cars, etc

many use Vlingo as a work around

it has a handy feature where when turned on you simply say "hey vlingo" and give it a command

its a 2011 cheverolet equinox. the car basically has two phone books. one stored on the car memory and then the entire phone book on my phone. You need to enter the car memory phone contacts manually one by one, number by number, so its alot easier to just place the call through the contacts that are already on the phone.

here is how i placed a call with the windows phone.

1) Press the button on my steering wheel
2) the car responds "onstar ready"
3) i say "blue tooth"
4) the car responds "bluetooth ready"
5) i say "voice" (what this did was access the phones voice command system)
6) I'd say call/text/find etc (whatever command normally work on the phone, without even having it connected to the car. its the same effect as holding the search button)

now when i go through the same process, and i get upto "voice" it tells me the device is not supported. i'll look into this vlingo thing. thanks!

All, This is my first posting. It is in hope I can add my voice to others about the lack of the Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket to make voice commands using bluetooth. I've spent numerous hours with the Samsung technical support team to tell me what I already suspected. The feature simply does not exist.

What a bummer. Foe such a great phone with numerous features you would figure an "old school" type of application would be included. Does Samsung recognize this is a safety hazard? Users have to fumble with the unit while driving. Not a good idea.

Does anyone know of a planed upgrade? The options of other apps simply do not work for me.

Maybe it is time to go back to the phone store and exchange it for an iPhone which I know will work.

Mine works. Vlingo and voice pop up

If you are looking for help I am more than happy to do so but more details are needed ...like what bt are you using etc

I use Motorola s9 and freebirds...both work

Your last comment will always be met by me with the same response...if you wanted iPhone functionality you should have bought an iPhone and should definitely consider taking it back and exchanging....

If you on the other hand are interested in learning more about how awesome Android is...and are willing to learn, then ask away!

I don't think its a question of "iPhone functionality" its a function of standard bluetooth capability and the fact it doesn't seem to work well on this device. I have issues just connecting with my jawbone and truck.......... it will work for a few days, then total issues connecting to either device. Connection issues are one thing, voice control should be standard issue :( Will be following this thread for solutions (hopefully) from the experts.

Meh....its just my standard response to "I'm going to just go get an iPhone"

I don't deny they work and work well...they are just a bit too "simple" for my tastes.

I am still going to play with Bluetooth and see what is going on. I am just in the middle of so many things currently. That and my fancy smancy wrx with the Bluetooth head unit currently is in 1,000 pieces right now (cracked a piston)

I am going to hook the battery up and see if I can duplicate the issue. Both of my stereo headsets have no issues tho

I agree with twills99 and iphone piper. How could a smartphone with all the features the sky has, not have a basic phone feature like voice dialing? I called Samsung C.S. and talked to them about this. I mean come on, I know it can do everything from text, web, open heart surgery, etc. but it is still a phone. I've tried a few apps but none seem to work well. Anyone have a suggestion?
I mean, to call a phone smart that lacks such a basic feature is not smart.
