before my droid, i had the omnia i910. it did everything i could ever want, just not very well. i tried waiting for the omnia 2, but it was held back for so long. i am not unhappy with the droid, but the omnia 2 has a few things that i like better.

1. MUCH better camera. i did a pic comparison yesterday, and the omnia 2's cam is worlds better
2. sd card on the side PLUS 9 gigs internal (1 system,8 storage)
3. about half the weight
4. voice activated everything. (droid does well, but omnia does music, apps, ... EVERYTHING)

i'm not concerned at all about the slide out keyboard. i just can't use it anyway. i would definitely miss the app market, i can't remember winmo's market being very good. other than that, are there reasons i wouldn't want to switch?????

Windows mobile 6.1?

it has windows 6.5

You just named 4 reasons why you'd like the Omnia better ... why would we OR should we talk you out of it?

Just say your "Goodbyes" and go get the phone you really want. It's really not any harder than that. :)

ouch. so there's 4 reasons .... maybe i should clarify. are there any downfalls concerning windows 6.5, or the omnia 2 itself that you guys know about. i am not an expert on the droid or the omnia 2. there are many things that i love about both phones. like i told my wife last night, the droid does everything that the omnia doesn't, and vice versa. i said this, but i still want to know if anyone knows the real dirt on the omnia 2. i know of, at least, one guy that is part of this community that was an omnia guy before moving to the droid. i wasn't posting this to say any goodbye's. i want to know expert opinions for the real techy stuff that i just don't know about. i realize that numbers on paper just don't mean everything. if no one has real experience with BOTH machines, then i'm out of luck. i just thought that i could ask a question on a forum. sorry if there's any misunderstanding.

Get what you think is best for your needs, not what the herd thinks is best for you. But just to stay on topic, I don't know how anyone can buy a WinMo phone right now since we've just seen how awesome WinPho7 is... a complete departure from anything remotely WinMo, WinPho7 has even gotten me super excited. Buy Android now, or wait for WinPho7.

try here: www.everythingwm.com for some points of view.

man ... i just read the "windows 7 details" from the link, and i am going to pass on windows mobile 7. no 3rd party support AT ALL and no multitasking. i realize winmo hacker guys will have the 3rd party thing worked out easily, but no multitasking is a deal breaker.

so what are the bad traits of 6.5? i can't find anything solid as to why people don't like it, but i know a lot who just don't. are there downfalls that would keep me from using the omnia 2 to it's potential? i know that you can root/hack/flash your way out of anything, but supposing i want to stay good ol' newbie stock rom ..... what are the suck factors?

and also, thanks very much. that link was perfect for the winpho 7 questions i would have.

I've had multiple winmo phones before the Droid.

I love them, they are still in my heart :p
I have found many apps worth having on them. 6.5 is a great OS I like 6.1 much better but little things here and there are nice for the 6.5, cant tell much, I know just Rom the hell out of it and you will find your best phone ever! Same goes for Droid.

even with winmo 6.5, the one touch experience in winmo is still pretty crappy compared to android and iphone. there still places where you have very lmited area to touch for recognition.

on the plus side with winmo you have bluetooth voice dialing in addition to the things you have noted.

i'm slowly going the way of no hardware keyboard (i use the droid keyboard sparingly), but for me, the omnia 2 onscreen keyboard isn't that great. On the plus side, it does have swype to make up for that.

i think if you like the omnia then it is what you should get. The best phone is the phone that is best for you.

I bought the Omnia 2 the day it was released because I hated the physical keyboard of the Droid. I had it less than a week before I traded it in for the Droid and I am so glad I did.

1. Yes it has a faster processor, but it runs extremely slow. Even my wife's Eris runs faster than the Omnia 2.

2. GPS is terrible on the Omnia 2, almost unusable. After finally setting up COM ports (pain to do) then it literally takes the phone 5-10 min to lock onto your position. I thought maybe it was just my phone but lots of people had this problem, not just me.

3. No streaming internet radio at all on Omnia 2. Does not have app for it, and you can not stream directly from any website.

4. Touchscreen - The Omnia 2's touchscreen is almost useless without using the stylus. I never use the physical keyboard on the droid, I have used nothing but a touchscreen since 2007. You can not type on the Omnia 2 without pulling the stylus out, what a pain!!!!

5. Also the Omnia 2's touchscreen scratches very easily. I had an iPhone since launch day 2007 and never had a scratch on the screen, I have had the Droid for over 3 months and no scratches. In the 5 days I had my Omnia 2 the screen already had a scratch. I have never used screen protectors on any of my phones.

I could not have been more disappointed with the Omnia 2. On paper it blows the droid away. In reality the Omnia 2 is no better than the touchscreen phones that were available 3 years ago.

Just an FYI, the Omnia uses a Samsung S3C6410 chip at 800MHz, but it is NOT faster than the Droid, not even close, as you obviously can tell.

It is an ARM11 class processor, like the one in the Eris, so it should be faster than the Eris, but who knows, the software may be unoptimized (WinMo, you now?)

The Cortex A8 based OMAP3 in the Droid will run circles around the Omnia II

3 things I most miss from my old WinMo phone....
- BT Voice Dialing
- Voice Command throughout the OS (e.g. Ford Sync system - same thing)
- Running apps from SD card

Those are your big advantages w/ any WinMo phone, IMO.

That being said, those advantages pale in comparison to all that you get w/ Android (IMO).

i love my droid for keyboard, the internet is fastest i have ever owned, i don't really remember my winmo phone too much, sadly. it used a stylus as well and unless i used my thumbnail i never could type too well, luckily it had a pull out keyboard, but it was big and bulky. glad i sold it, glad i have droid now. winmo 7 sounds cool, but what doesn't sound cool on paper

i can't tell if that's funny, smart ass ... or both.

thanks anyway, my decision is made: droid

im glad you have some sense of humor mate :D but when faced with a 2 choice option throw a coin. (or in this case have someone tell you stright out) because in that tiny lapse of time in which the coin is up in the air you'll know what you really want. u'll get that feeling in which u want that ONE side of the coin to come up. trust me it works :D:D:D

are you confucius, jesus, or buddah? it's not every day some gives advice that is, not only, great advice, but also mind blowingly deep.

if you came up with that, you're smart.
