Will the Galaxy get Donut?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether the Galaxy is likely to get the Donut (2.0) upgrade for free, much like the G1 got Cupcake (1.5) for free.

I am really thinking about buying this phone and can't wait to be able to play with it in the shops. Does anyone know what carrier it is being released on in the UK? I have heard rumours that it is going to be on O2.

I highly doubt that donut will be out in the next two months as they just finished cupcake... and if they go the way the have been the release of "donut" will be OTA again....

The rumored specs had it on Cupcake. As there is some speculation that the i7500 will be out on TMo before the summer is out (and announced before the end of June) I'm betting Cupcake is correct.

It will be released with Cupcake. As Donut is still a long way from being released it is impossible to know for sure if an upgrade will be officially released for the phone. However I think it is more than likely that an upgrade will be provided once Donut has been released. If an official upgrade is not released then someone will probebly make an unoffcial upgrade for it.

No announcement has been made on which UK provider will be releasing the galaxy. In Germany the galaxy will be released on O2. This doesn't mean that O2 in the UK will be definitely be the carrier but it is likely.

Why thank you! You have all been most helpful. I can't wait to get my hands on this phone, as it has everything I want. 5MP camera, 3.5mm headphonejack, large battery, slim profile and most importantly an operating system that doesn't suck ass like WinMo. I hate that piece of unintuitive garbage where half the operations require a stylus.

I was considering a Pre, but they are going to take at least another 6 months to get to Europe from what I have heard. I also have really big hands and probably wouldn't be able to handle the little keyboard.

Be advised that the i7500 does NOT have a hardware keyboard. Hopefully the extra large screen (3.2 in.) will make it easy enough for us ham-fisted gents to type on the soft kbd.

I am fully aware that this phone doesn't have a hard keyboard. The fact that it's thinner than the iPhone is definitely an indication of that ;-) However it does vibrate when you type on it, and I tried that on the HTC Magic and really liked it!

Another question I had was this: Does the Galaxy have a compass in it like the G1 and the Magic?

yup it has a compas... it's stated in the french press release of the samsung galaxy
