Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I will have to see. I have counted 7 places I would like stickers, and ordered 10, so have extra to experiment.

Here are my locations and initial ideas:

Car: Bluetooth on, wi-fi off, pandora streaming, volume to max., GPS on
Office 1: Bluetooth on, Wi-fi off, volume to max, pandora streaming. - this is for when I listen to music
Office 2: Volume to low, bluetooth off, wi-fi off, GPS off. For when I am not listening to music.
Office 3: Volume to silent. (posted on the door jam to my office, to hit on my way out of the office for a meeting.)
Entrance to Home: Bluetooth off, Wi-fi on, volume to max.
Kitchen: Browser to allrecipes.com, screen timeout set to 5 minutes. (for cooking, screen is on longer so I don't have to touch the phone with food on my hands)
Nightstand: Volume to low, back-up alarm set, night clock mode started.

Hah! that is so awesome I love it :)

NFC should be updated soon I'm hoping to provide some more functionality. As of now it can't toggle GPS (crazy I think) and change screen timeout settings. The only things I see you want to do that it can't presently do. It does have this section for launching a custom task under "applications" but I have not figured that one out yet!

Hmm, yeah don't see why GPS can't be toggled, although to be honest, leaving it on 100% has a miniscule affect on the battery. THe screen timeout thing is a bummer, maybe I can find a work-around for that, as it would be so convenient to be able to adjust that. Although I would probably need a second tag to revert back to my standard setting nearby too come to think of it.

NFC task launcher also has the ability to create 2 tasks/profiles with one tag, that might really come in handy for you. The first time it reads is task/profile1 and the second time you read is task/profile2. Somehow it alternates reads in a 1-2-1-2 order. idk how but it works!

And you are right on with the GPS. When an app isn't calling for it I don't think it uses any battery at all

Nice! Yeah that will save me a few tags. Is there a time limit to the switching that you have seen?

Good afternoon! Been busy at work, swinging the sword of justice, but I wanted to give an update on a couple of things:

1) NFC - finally got my tags working SO well. I simply could not get NFC Launcher to load multiple apps the way I wanted them. I finally installed Tasker (I hadn't used it in quite a while.) It works VERY well with NFC Launcher! I pretty much now just do my programming of the tag in Tasker, and simply have the launcher run the Tasker task.

For example - I have a Tasker task called "car dock." It:
  • sets my screen to never time out (can't do that with NFC Launcher)
  • loads Pandora in the background (and starts it to streaming)
  • sets my phone to "car dock mode." (I had no idea our Nexi even had that mode...I never ran across it in the settngs.) This is nice because when it's in that mode, and I presss the 'home' key, it goes to my car dock program. FYI - Car Home Ultra is a GREAT car dock app!
  • Loads my navigation app, and that is on top, asking me for the destination.
I temporarily taped the tag to my car dock, to be sure it would work fine, and it does.

I also have a tag for when I work in my home office. It stops the keyguard, sets screen timeout for 90 seconds (you can't do this with NFC Launcher, Antimony), loads Pandora to start streaming, loads my phone app (exDialer), and finally, pops up a message to start working.

LOVING these NFC tags!!! If you like using them, I'd strongly encourage you to try out Tasker. I didn't care that much for it before, as it wasn't that intuitive, I didn't think. However, with the NFC tags able to run a "task", it's easy to program whatever you want your phone to do in Tasker, then have a tag to run it. (for example, I also have a tag to turn OFF Pandora and stop the car dock mode, via Tasker, can't do that via NFC Launcher.)

I've communicated some with the dev for NFC Launcher. Very nice guy. However, that app will not currently do what Tasker will do, especially concerning the multiple apps. Thus, Tasker takes his program and makes it a REALLY useful app!

2) My dad and I are working on a desk dock. The same day I got Nessie, I knew I wanted to make a dock for it. I want something that will be appropriate sitting on a professional desk, be it a lawyer's office, accountant's office, or even looking nice on a nightstand. I'm curious how many people would be interested in one of these? We don't have plans to use the pogo pins, as we want the dock to be accept virtually any case. Instead, it'll probably come with a 6' USB charging cable. Right now, we're looking at a wooden dock, probably made from contrasting hardwoods, such as maybe walnut and maple, or cherry and hickory, etc.

We just found out yesterday that my dad is going to have shoulder surgery, so that may set us back a bit, or may actually move us forward. He has the woodworking equipment needed to do this type of thing (I do woodturning, thus my name.) :)

He did make a stand for the DX, and my son and stepson got the only 2 stands he produced (sheeesh...I never got one...lol), and they are both very techy and very particular about their phones, and LOVE their stands.

Anyway, I don't want to say anything else, as I don't want to violate any type of spam rules, unless the mods say it's ok.

Now, back to work!

Definitely going to have to check out Tasker to integrate with NFC Launcher tasks.

Also regarding GPS -- I recommend that everyone leave it on. GPS is only used/polled when an application requests it, otherwise it is not on in the background at all. Its so easy to leave on and use when an app needs it than to have to toggle it on when you know you're going into a GPS intensive application.

Also another shot edited with the Flickr app.

P.S. must be VERY confieeee with ADB commands
and it is again an alpha build it will more then likely not work as a stable one yet i need more feed back on it

P.S.S if you partake in testing i am not responsible for what you do to YOUR phone although 99.999999% of things are fixable
