I am a complete newb when it comes to rooting, and the more i read these forums the more confused i get. I currently rooted my phone using the method on revolutinary.io with the help of a great youtube clip. My question now is whats next, How can i flash a custom rom on the phone , with rom manager? or is it something in the rev boot menu on the phone thanks for the help

i personally would avoid the use of rom manager, with exception of using it to flash clockwork recovery(i wouldnt use it for that either, but if your new its an acceptable way to glash it).

rom manager is an app,in a working rom,and therefore will not always be available to you. if youre hung in a boot loop or non-functional rom,you will have no choice but to use your custom recovery and do it manually.

revolutionary may have installed it for you. you can enter recovery several ways: thru hboot, thru rom manage,or thru an app such as quickboot. most custom roms have an option to boot to recovery from the "power off" menu.

once youre in recovery(usually clockwork, but there are others) use the menus to make a nandroid backup, wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache and flash your rom.

*always make a backup!*

check out the root sticky. alot of the guides link to a thread called "[how to] and some root terminology".

read thru the terms, and the guides in that thread, and that will give you a good start on the knowledge you need to be a successful root/rom-er. :D

just post if you have any other questions after checkin out all the info. :)

scotty is for sure right about using recovery (i usually do), but i.m.o. once you learn how to do everything manually, theres nothing wrong with using the app. (you can choose to wipe everything automatically and even make a backup auto)

there is plenty of info on here to get you started!

Well said above. i would also suggest staying away from using ROM manager other than to flash clockwork recovery. I use it on occasion to backup my system so i can name it whatever i want. but i never flash ROMs through it.

learning how to flash ROMs, wipe data/cache/dalvik/battery stats manually in clockwork is the only way i would do it.

i suggest making a backup of you system right now.

look through all the available ROMs. there are TONS and it can be overwhelming.
Sense 2.1 ROMs are going to be the most stable
if you are going for speed, i would suggest going with one of the CM7.X ROMs. however there are some things you may need to do to get GPS and network location working correctly.

also, if you are going to be a flashaholic (like me) i would suggest getting to know titanium backup and purchasing the pro version. it makes getting you saved games and apps setup just the way you had them before.

other than that, do some reading, ask questions, do some more reading and you will be flashing in no time :)
