My 1st Smartphone - Droid RAZR

Hey everybody, I'm just about to go get my 1st smartphone (at least I don't THINK my LG Voyager is a smartphone) which is going to be the Droid RAZR. I've got a lot to learn, I'm sure, but figured I'd introduce myself here and ask my 1st question!

Before I go get my phone I figured I'd buy some protection for it, so I'm not walking around for a few days to a week with it unprotected. Last I remember it's a gorgeous looking phone so I'd prefer to keep it thin and un-obscured. So, does anyone know if there's any real difference between the Ghost Armor, ArmorSuit, and Zagg InvisibleSHIELDs? They all seem relatively the same at first glance.

Also, are these really sufficient protection for a smartphone? Thanks! :)

The shield type products do ok for keeping scratches off of he phone, but wont help very much if you drop the phone other than helping with the scratches the fall could cause.

I use a shiny silcone case(sometimes called TPU) and it works fine and offers some drop protection.

I just got a seidio active case. I used to be a loyal otterbox user. This case has all the protection of the otterbox, but none of the sticky lint grabbing the otterbox does. I'm going to post up a review in a day or two....

Did you previously have the OtterBox for the Droid RAZR before your new Seidio Active one? If so, could you please compare price/weight/size differences between the two encased phones? Thanks in advance.

Didn't have one for the razr, but I had one for both my old hero and my evo shift. This case (and I have not seen an otterbox for the razr in person yet) seems a lot slimmer than the others were for my other phones. I'll post some pics when I can....

How much was your new case? I saw the OtterBox Commuter for the RAZR was $31 (on Radioshack.com).

This is the one I got and it's on sale now at Amazon. Keeps the phone relatively thin and still adds protection and a kickstand.

Amazon.com: Verizon Wireless Shell & Holster Combo with Kickstand for Motorola Droid Razr in Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

This is the one I'm using too.
The phone has had a couple of falls off the nightstand, nothing major. Either the case did it's job and protected the phone, or the fall wouldn't have hurt the phone anyway, no harm was done.

I have a brand new Otterbox Commuter case that I bought for my razr, put it on long enough to see I didn't like the way it THICKENED the phone, one of the selling points of this phone was it's slenderness. I'll send you the one I have for $20 (shipping included) if you live in the U.S. (Hawaii and Alaska excluded)

Not a single scratch or mark on it and is like brand new.

P.M. For information.

Paypal accepted.

There's so many good points yet so many complaints all over this site about seemingly every kind of phone. Is everyone a nitpicking fanatic, or are these phones really that problematic?

The phone is fabulous the cases that hold them are to each his own. It's all about what you like. Currently I'm torn between the case Verizon sells with the kick stand and the TPU case I got from Amazon, I like them both but each has it's own unique characteristics.

Only reason I dislike the otter is it's girth, reminds me too much of an iPhone BLECHHH :D , if I had to bet my $$ on what would protect the phone the best the otter box wins hands down.

CruzerLite TPU cases - $9.70 on amazon. Look good and provide protection for drops and such. Fits great every cutout for the Camera, headphone jack, power button, and other places that require a cutout. The volume rockers are covered, but are easily adjustable throught the case. The sim and SD card slot are covered, but personally i'd rather they be as I don't need to get into there often. Also have little androids on them that I think makes them better looking.

Yeah the cruzerlite is what I got from Amazon, I like it for a pocket carry but also like the kick stand on the Verizon hard case belt clip setup for watching vids.

Yeah, I want a hard case (I've currently got a Body Glove case for my LG Voyager) as opposed to a silicon one (like the white one I've got on my iPod). So many options out there, and the whole market is so much different now from when I got my last phone about 3 1/2 years ago.

Also, as far as people saying tons of stuff in either direction (good or bad) I was talking about the actual RAZR itself. I get the feeling everyone is very picky though. :p

I don't know why, but I don't really like the look of those. Maybe it's the color, or the pattern on them.

Agreed. I have four different color Cruzerlite TPU cases for basic carrying around. I also have the kickstand case if I know I am going to be watching movies or vids. Since the TPU cases come off quick and easily it's not hard to switch cases for whatever I am going to be using it for.
Howeve I may have to sell my TPU cases since I am returning my razr and waiting for the razr maxx to release and picking that up.

If you like the body glove and a hard case, you will LOVE the Otterbox Commuter. It's both, you snug the phone into the rubber sleeve and then slip it into the hard plastic surround.

Ah okay, and the Seidio case is like the Body Glove where it's just 2-piece hard plastic, with no rubber sleeve? Or is the Seidio case like the OtterBox Commuter (rubber sleeve + hard plastic case)?

The Body Glove is just a 2 piece hard case, with a textured rubber skin on the outside and a felt covering on the inside.

Dunno what the Seidio is all about, I only know what I have.
