CES 2012: Anything caught your fancy?

I bet everyone on AF is following all CES 2012 news coming in from the various blogs. Today will be the 3rd day So what have you read that has really caught your fancy?

Right now, I'm just following Phandroid, Android Police and Android Central for my news.

I would love if all phones that come out are waterproofed. Saw the HzO's WaterBlock, a waterproof coating on your phone, and thought it was pretty cool.

Walking around the tech floor I saw a display of some devices sitting underneath falling water like it was nothing, people were playing with the units, they were playing music and it was like everything was normal, wet but normal. Instantly I was intrigued and walked over and that is when it happened. Off came the battery door, SIM card and battery exposed and boom, there went his beloved Android device in the water like it was nothing, and thanks to HzO it is like nothing happened to the device, it remains fully functional with zero damage to any of the electronics.

Then there's the NFC Xperia tags that I thought was pretty cool. I use Llama a geo profiling app based on cell towers but when I'm at home, I wish I could give it better commands for when I'm upstairs vs downstairs. I just hope that this isn't just compatible with Xperia phones, caused that would be really sad

In our future, all electronics will be powered by Android. How scary is that when one company will one day have such a huge reach in our homes? I remember CES 2011 where they demoed washer, dryer and fridge that used Android. All I got to say...Google don't be evil. Else...it'll be 1984.

Anyway, it's good to see that Polaroid is jumping on the Android band wagon. Though for a pocket camera, it really needs much better spec than that, lol.

The razr maxx... 3300mah battery. I've got 3 days to decide if I want to return my razr and wait for the razr maxx. The hardware is the same only difference is battery size. However the razr having a 1700mah and the razr maxx having 3300mah is a big difference. what to do...what to do...

Might finally get a tablet since those $200-250 tablets all have ics, dual or quad core and look pretty nice. Gotta check out the reviews first. It seems there's about to be a tablet overload and this will lead to a lot of competition.

I would go with the Razr Maxx for the better battery life

I saw some of the dual cores tablets that are less than $250. I didn't see any announcement of quad core tablets for less than $250. I really doubt that the $250 price range is for quad core tablets.

You can add watches and car stereos to that list. Basically anything that has a touchscreen that isn't an iDevice is slowly becoming Androidized. Yes, I just made a new word!

As far as Google...under their current management, I wouldn't worry too much about one company having so many in-roads into your home. I'd be more concerned about the intermediary manufacturers that add stuff to Android that make it insecure. Like the semi-recent CIQ fiasco.

I'm looking at upgrading my T-Mobile Tab 7.0 Plus (also works on AT&T's HSPA and $15/mo. MediaNet plan) to some iteration of the Tab 7.7, and also the Dish Network "Hopper/Joey":

At the 2012 Consumer Electronic Show here today, BlueStacks revealed a functional demo that runs Android apps of all kinds on Windows 8. This follows last year's debut of the software and release as a rough alpha for Windows 7, but it comes with a piece of unexpected news. The software maker has been in talks with hardware manufacturers to ship the program preinstalled on Windows 8. A beta of the Windows 7 version was also cagily given a release date of sometime before the second quarter of 2012.

Hahaha, nice!!! That would make gaming more enjoyable on a tablet. I hope they make the controllers removable and the price low but I'm not sure if they want hardware that is comparable to a laptop.

The chick in the video reminds me of a friend of mine. She looks 80% like her, lol.

Those controllers don"t look removable. The specs on Fiona are way over any tablet specs.

I just got back from CES too. I was very impressed with the 3D TVs especially from LG and Sony. Samsung's OLED TV really blew me away too.

But what I was most impressed by was Corning's Gorilla Glass 2. They had a presentation where they broke "regular" glass and then tried to break gorilla glass, and it wouldn't break. I was really impressed. I'm not sure where they use gorilla glass but gone will be the days when you sit on your phone and break it haha.

Durability for GG2 is the same as GG but is only half the thickness.

Yes, this is what I was referring too. I don't want to spend more then $300 on a tablet and this looks pretty nice.

I hope Google jumps on board with this idea as well. Imagine how cool it would be to root your car

Also the giant push for smart televisions is interesting I find it surprising that LG and Samsung are pushing multiple OS types (one of which is honeycomb based Google TV ) and Lenovo coming out with an ICS based television

With smart TVs poised to become the "next big thing" I wonder if the OS wars will extend to that front as well
