okay i am soo mad right this moment here's the problem...i have an optimus m running 2.2.2 it was 2.2.1 before today. a few months ago i rooted it with gingerbreak and it work later i had to unroot it for repairs now it doesnt want to root and to make it worse when i updated all the bloatware from metro returned!! i need to root it again ive tried z4root v1.3 but it crashes ive tried gingerbreak v1.2 but it sends a message that says not sure what happened please reboot your phone and see if superuser is installed but its not!! superoneclick stop working after step 5 i will be willing to use ADB if nessecery!!

Help!?

Use what Misleadb4 posted above, it will give you root and recovery.. it will work for you because that's what I used to root my LG Optimus M 2.2.2 and it worked perfectly on the first try, and it took about 5 minutes since its so simple to do. So let us know how it goes for you, and if you need help just ask :)

Agreed. I have an OM that was originally 2.2 and had it rooted. I decided, for various reasons, to use the LG update tool and put my phone at the 2.2.2 version (thus un-rooting my phone and putting it back to stock). I then used that 3 click method and re-rooted my phone.

Hi guys,
I've tried the above 3 click method several times and I have no idea what I am doing wrong (yes, a newbie). I believe I followed everything, installed it on the phone, ran it, rebooted it...still nothing. Any ideas? Yes, I'm running 2.2.2

Below is what I get from the root kit:

I realized I had NOT disabled the USB Storage Mode. I did that and this time Superuser shows up in my apps. Still no option to unstill Metro PCS apps.
Is there something I should be doing after the phone reboots?

This is what the root kit gave me this time...

Haha you remind me of myself when I was new to rooting last year, it may seem very complicated but its very easy.. just like you after rooting my phone I was thinking the same thing like you... "How do I remove these annoying apps now?"

Since you have superuser, that means your root was succesful, and to remove system apps you need file managers with root access. The best one I'd recommend for future use of managing system files is ES File Explorer.. its free and does the job.

Your next concern should be to flash CM7 onto your phone. You wont regret it.. If you consider it, I suggest you go with reppard's CM7 ROM http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/407601-rom-yacr-cm-7-1-reppard.html

By the way if you don't know what CM7 is, its basically a modified and full feature version of the original 2.3 Gingerbread.

Wow, Kaiser, I have no idea what you're talking about! HA! But I have indeed seen ROMs mentioned (like I know what the hell that means!). So...are you saying I should upgrade to Gingerbread?! I didn't know I could do that....okay, I will try tomorrow! Great, another challenge!!!

If your serious about flashing custom roms then watch the youtube video about flashing custom roms and recovery with the optimus m by "mikesolo420". get yourself comfortable with getting yourself in and out of recovery mode. Since you used the 2.2.2 root kit you already have custom recovery, so to get into it turn your phone off, then press and hold piwer, vol down, and home buttons together for 10-20 secs then your recovery window will appea. Since i havent used that particular recovery menu i dont know anything about it so get yourself oriented. vol up/don should move you up/down, menu button should select things, back buttons , well its the back button.. Make sure to nand backup.

This thread is all about rooting and roms and everything you can think of. Optimus M - All Things Root - Android Forums

Also this is a very stable rom http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22300603/CM7.1-reppard-09202011.zip

After your comfortable in your recovery , download an app called androzip, it lets you look onto your sdcard. then download desired rom it should go into download folder on your sdcard, move it to a new folder name it "A" Use this folder for rom related things. then get into recovery via button combo. If you havent made a nand backup do it now. then go to wipe menu, wipe dalvik, wipe catch, wipe user data, wipe all data, then go to flash from zip menu, toggle signature varifacation, flash zip from your A folder, reboot. might take a min longer then expected dont worry its normal.

then if you want market and other apps boot into recovery, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, then flash this
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
dont forget to toggle sig verifacation before flashing.

Then to get mms working flash this the same way as gapps. http://techygeek.org/media/MetrOFF-v1.3-MMS-GB-Edify-CM_AOSP-No_Roaming_indicator_Off_signed.zip

Dont forget to put all this into your A folder before going into recovery mode. hope this helps, this is just the beginning. Good luck, let me know how everything goes.

Question do the rom u posted run well rooted 2.2.2 and if so does it include the updated oc kernel for 2.2.2? Also when flashing all of the above is it possible to flash rom gapp and mms one after another before rebooting? I ask because I prefer using quickboot vs manual recovery method and I know if I flash rom then reboot I wont be able to download quickboot to go back into recovery to flash gapps and mms.

If you flash that rom, the power button gives you the option to reboot into recovery. after you flash rom reboot then boot into recovery then flash gapps, mms fix reboot.

Yes this roms good for 2.2.2. good luck.

Also idk about the kernal. sorry i havent looked in awhile.

I just wanted to give thanks for answering my questions and for the links posted above. I am now a proud user of cm 7.1 which is my 1st full rom outside of the ezrider Kelso 2.2.2 rom. I did have a couple brick scares after flashing gapps and mms fix. Luckily for me I was able to pull the battery reboot and all was working. Our yea I am also over clocked at 748. Are there any other tips or tricks I can do to better my phone? I've read something about Lcd density or something like that?

Remove metro bloadware as there resource consuming, to get flash player to woek download this flash mod, your have to have an app called androzip or similar so you can look onto your sdcard find the flash diwnload and install reboot you shiuld have flash player. All I do is try and read these threads and pick & choose what sounds good . Lol Make nand backups before you try anything just to be on the safe side.

Sorry for the noob question but how I disable usb storage mode? I tried like 3 times to root my phone and it factory reset my phone. I lost all constacts, apps, etc.
what I did wrong?

Settings>SD card storage or something like that>uncheck the box on top

Also go to settings>applications>development>check USB development or development mode.

Edit: if the phone was signed into gmail before, then your contacts are synced with gmail. just sing into gmail again to get contacts back and let it sync.

ok guys, I tried everything, enable debugging, disabling sotarage, format my microsd, i tried in two three different computers, and nothing. Usb drivers work fine. This patch doesn't root my phone, but instead it creates a root folder in microsd with files that i cannot open because something is missing, the only file that i can open is superuser older version.

I am totally sure that this bat patch was not made for Optimus M
(says S in the description) and it can wipe all your phone if you try to go the recovery. (already some users reported it). So it works for only some OM versions. Several have my same problem.

I think this patch is unsafe for people who doesn't know what they are doing, so be careful with it. I don't recommend you to use it.
