Root camcorder leaves freeze frames in videos

hi i havent seen a solution to this problem anywhere so i thought id post about it here. i dont mind the low frame rate of the Triumph camcorder so my main complaint is that after installing cm7 beta 8 the video playback of anything i record has random but frequent freeze frames. its like the video stopped recording for a second or two them started again leaving the last frame to hang there for a bit before it starts working again. this happens about every 5 seconds. its extremely annoying. it also happens when i play the videos on my computer so its actually part of the recorded video itself. i cant see these freeze frames happen when recording a video just during playback.

idk what could be causing it but its been like this since i installed cm7 beta 8. should i re-root? try MIUI?

that is a problem of too low class of SD card.

If your using the stock 2GB class 2 card, its becuase the phone cant write the HD video data fast enough and has to cache it.

besides 2GB is almost useless for anyone, they include it as a courtesy. you should really be upgrading to a class 4 or better.

Class 4 should be ideal for you, the most write intensive thing the Triumph can do to the SD card is record 720p video, and the minimum required class for that is Class 4, so you should be fine with one of those.

The default CM7 B0.8 ROM's video encoding for 1280x720p and 720x480p uses 6Mbps bitrate, which is just above class 4 speeds. I'm going to tweak this a bit for my next TG-Reloaded ROM to be a bit lower and within class 4 specs. It's kinda wasted anyway, because the quality isn't that good from the camera sensor. It's all defined in /system/etc/media_profiles.xml if you want to see & modify it yourself.

Good to know.

I noticed this problem on my stock class 2 card, but it went away with my 16gb class 6 card.

interesting. i never thought of the SD card. im using a 16gb PNY card from Best Buy and it looks like it has a 4 with a circle around it. i assume that means it is a class 4 but its that what i need? should i take Whyzors advice and try and edit the media_profiles.xml?

or maybe its a fake class 4. i heard of that happening but i bought it from best buy.

Usually when you buy something from a store you can trust it. So it is most likely a class 4. You could try editing the media_profiles.xml or you could always just wait till the next release of cm7-tg-reloaded if you don't want to risk trying...

get a sd card benchmark app from the market and find out your speeds for yourself. classes define the minimum speed, with actual speeds often being higher. also you can play with various sd card tweaks. most likely, it's not a sd card issue though. does it happen if you record at the lowest res? (i'd test myself but my camera locks up my phone now)

antutu is an allinone benchmark app that can test, but there's a popular standalone as well

Well here is my bench mark from antutu

Lol not a great card write speed. Why the heck is it so low?

Is there a default write speed and/or so we need to use an SD speed app to set the speed to 512 kbs? I have a Lexar 16gb class 10 sd card. Just want to get the max from it.

Just dl your latest ROM.
Thanks

Your class 10 sd card is capable of handling writes speeds way higher. These are just minimum requirements. There's no reason to set the speed manually. The encoding bitrate is to set the quality of the video, typically 1280x720p @ 4 Mbps h264/AAC codec is more than adequate, especially on a low-end camera like the MT.
