I got a Nexus, wife just got an iPhone

I agree whole heartedly with the setup the OP has. My wife has a Droid 3, but I wish she would get an iPhone. I am desperately trying to get her to embrace some of the tech out there, and the Droid is just too far over her head for her to get into it. She always has to ask me to do stuff for her on her phone, like even simple stuff like move apps onto the homescreen. The iPhone, everything is the same, simple. For someone like her, it is the perfect smartphone.

Yea I think the iPhone is perfect for my wife. She doesn't do anything besides call, text, maybe some email, and simple apps. I like to toy with my phone a little bit, but not enough to where I'd miss it with an iPhone. Plus its good for her because she doesn't have an iPod, so it's really an all in one thing for her.

I'm a music hound so I use my 160gb ipod. Now if the iPhone had 160gb plus that battery life, I'd probably be sold for sure, because then I could have one, but I can't force myself to limit it to 32gb or even the 64.

What are the odds some tweaks in ICS get better battery life? I read somewhere, probably on here, that there was a rumor of some bug and they're working on fixing it and it should be a noticeable help.

It's really not an issue 90% of the time, it just always sticks in the back of my head that if I'm going to be out, I need to turn data off and carry my little power pack. Kinda bugs me on a $600 device.

I must say..@ the OP

Do what makes ya happy man! In my eyes Android is so much more entertaining then IOS...IOS is just very bland and boring to me IMHO,,,But thats my take, and guess what, I'm a former iphone user.

As for the whole very heated debates going back and fourth in alot of threads over the last couple of weeks... I have this to say, being on this Forum is all in good taste and for fun guys and gals! Some people like to lurk and get a convo all amped up for no particular reason. Whether it's about an OS, a Device model, Battery life, 4G, etc! To those I say...Seriously, were all supposed to get along, and mainly speak about why were here in the first place...Because of our love towards the World that is Android...

You know what's funny about music? I've always been a hound too with putting a ton on my phone. I was fussed about the GNex not having an SD slot. Right now, I have exactly zero songs on my GNex. I discovered Google Music. I have a huge chunk of my collection there and access to it over the 4G network. I love it. And, there's an app on my computer, that if I copy more music into the directory, it automatically puts it out on the cloud for my phone to access.

Back to making your decision, here's how I made mine. For me, web browsing is my #1 phone use. I had a great web experience on my Incredible, but I didn't want to have to zoom and move the page around. The GNex is perfect for me. I can see it, without zooming, with or without glasses.

+1!!! Cloud storage FTW!

Yea I'm starting to get google music into effect...works great for around the office and letting me leave the ipod in the car.

I'm pretty sure I'm keeping the nexus....I just enjoy it too much and I love how ICS is going and look forward to updates.

6 months from now, if the battery is some major problem for me, I'll bit the bullet, by an iPhone out right and hopefully sell my nexus on ebay for a few hundred bucks.

To me...it's get the iphone for better battery life, but sacrifice all my google stuff (or at least ease of google stuff), have to buy something for navigation one way or another, and basically be done with it.

or

Keep the Nexus, suffer a bit with battery life, but mod it however I want, put whatever I want on it, including any files, music, video, etc.

2 weeks isn't enough time for me to decide on a phone....I'd like whatever I had until I got burnt by it somehow. The first day I'm out and away from a charger and my Nexus is dead at 4pm...I'll regret everything lol.

I think you'll find the battery will most likely improve with future software updates. Also, if you haven't already, buy the extended battery NOW! To me, I don't care how long the battery lasts if I don't enjoy using the device.

I got the extended battery.

I also just picked up one of those Anker external things...I think it was 5800mah...and it's pretty small for such power. Only $30 on Amazon, so I'll throw that in my pocket on days I'm going to be out for a while.

I debated getting the bigger 8400mah one, but that looks to be twice the size as the 5800 and basically the size of my Nexus but thicker...so...probably over kill for my pocket.

I'll manage.

if a dead battery is your main concern why not get an extra battery or two or three? they are pretty cheap at $20 a pop.

That's my thing. I'm not going to turn off the phone's functionality. That's WHY I bought an awesome phone. I'm not going to buy a lesser phone just for battery life. I like cutting edge. So... make it work. Charger at home next to my bed. Charger at home on my desk. Charger at work on my desk. Charger in my car. Problem solved.

AND... I do anticipate a newer ICS version to improve battery life. The rooters and flashers are reporting better battery life.

The OP really does have the perfect situation to make his decision . I left my Incredible and got the iphone 4 when it launched on VZW and used it for almost a month at first I liked the simplicity of iOS but after about a week I started to get bored just as I do with android (which is why I like themes and roms) I really missed widgets and the pull down notification (I know it has it now but not at the time) I liked the battery life I got a good 40% more battery life on my iphone 4 then my incredible . there is no denying that , I get good life out of my Nexus but nowhere near my iphone4 even with 4g off and the extended battery it probably falls about 20% short of the ip4

One thing about the camera is I think it's a bit blown out of proportion I didn't find the Iphone4 camera to be anything special slightly better then my Incredible but a couple days ago I was going through my computer and photos and was comparing pictures from my iphone my rezound adn my nexus and honestly I thought my Nexus pictures looked better then the ip4 but not as good as the Rezound . Now I've only played with a 4s for about 2 minutes but the iphone just doesn't do it for me .

I've tidied this trainwreck up some more so that it looks and reads halfway-decent. I don't want to have to come back and repeat the process, so please take alostpacket's good advice and keep your posts on-topic and within the Site Rules.

I strongly advise anyone wishing to debate the pros and cons of various mobile operating systems, or to depart from addressing the OP's specific points, to open a new topic is a more appropriate section of the site. Derailing and/or hijacking is viewed dimly here on AF.

Finally, should you take issue with a post, please use the "Report...." button to bring it to the attention of staff and let them handle it as they see fit.

Thanks!

When was it $30?

I bought that Camera FX when it was on sale and I think that takes better pictures than the stock camera.

It's not so much the camera as the app, I think. Maybe it's just playing mind games with me, but it seems better using something other than the stock camera app.

I got it when it was on sale as well and it blows away the stock camera app . It's a lot slower but it works so much better . Best ten cents I've ever spent lol

You go with what fits your needs and your daily routine.

I have both - working for a wireless carrier + Google Voice = lots of fun.

I like my iPhone (4) for the polished apps and the simplicity. I like my Nexus for the data related applications because of LTE - I'm in Houston, TX. I enjoy the call quality of both devices, but I find the speaker phone is better on the iPhone - a practical concern for me as I do use speaker phone a good deal, especially when playing video games. Transferring files is an issue with both; the Nexus has more potential in this area but this MTP/PTP business is a PITA - I understand the logic and technical reasons for it and think it's a positive move, just wish there was more support for it. I'm still not sure about the cameras; I've always enjoyed the quality of my iPhone pictures, but love the shutter speed on the Nexus - I have DSLRs so the camera is more of a 'nice to have' than a potential deal breaker.

Truth be told, I got the Nexus because I do technical support so I perform better when I know the devices intimately. If Apple produces an LTE enabled iPhone, I'll probably go back to iOS exclusively. I like the consistent user experience. I also like the customization and tinkering that comes with any Android device. Right now, I have less time for tinkering. However, both devices are superb. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. In todays world of technology, you can work around the things that you're missing or missing out on by going with one device over another.

I have both and I almost always prefer using my 4s. It just works. ICS is amazing and I really enjoy customizing but the battery life is just awful on the nexus. Yes 4G is fast but I found myself never using it because I'm always on wifi. If your wife has the iPhone I say go iPhone. iMessage is a huge plus!

Thanks to the guy who posted the toggles for the iPhone link!! It works perfect!!!

I love my nexus, but the thing about iphone is it seems more solid bothh hardware abd software . Its more polished and "just works". I think android has a bit further to go before it is on the same level in that regard. 4s cam is amazing the nexus cam is average

Also our features like widgets and live wallpapers make the phone slower and uses more battery life . After a week of that my nexus is back to plain wallpaper and icons like ios. U get better performance overall this way.

I'll say this much. If iphone had 4+ inch screen there will be no question id go back to apple in a sec. Unless some amazing android phone comes out ill likely be selling my nexus and getting the iphone 5 down the line. In the meantime i hope they fix this issue with my nexus constantly losing connection throughout the day.

My whole thing about the 'just works' thing is it is about perspective.

On an Android device, you pretty much know when something goes wrong because you get the FC dialog. On the iPhone, the app just exits out to the homescreen - easy for someone less savvy to think that they did something wrong instead of an application crashing.

That being said, I've found the Nexus to be quite stable so far. I only get a FC when using Weatherbug Elite and I tap on the map widget - obviously the app needs to be updated, no big deal. I've also had two random power cycles. However, after I updated a couple of apps, that seems to have ceased.

There will never be a device that will be 100%. It all comes down to what fulfills ones needs.

I get ok battery life out of my Nexus. I mean it really does depend on what I am doing. If I am playing a game or watching a movie I can drain it in 5 hours or so. On the flip side though if its a few calls or texts and what not Ive seen it last 36hrs before reaching 20%.

I have two batteries myself one is charging while I am using the other. Someone mentioned getting a few since they are cheap. At least with the Nexus you have that option. The iphone it stuck. not to mention the screen on the Nexus is so much bigger and nicer than the Iphone. So technically it should drain the battery faster.
