ok so when i downloaded the CWM from the post that interdept posted and the intructions said to run .bat if your on windows and run .sh if your on mac, well im on a windows pc but i dont see run .bat at all i only see run .sh please help i just rooted my phone :) and would like to make a backup of the stock rom so that i cant install other roms:) thanks

Unless you can't see other file extention like.txt or .exe or .doc or .dll ... if that's the case then click on the other file named "star-scrom-0.6-boost"

looks like thats another problem because thats not there either heres a list of what came in the CWM folder in order

adb - file
adb - application
adb.osx - osx file
AdbWinApi.dll - application extension
AdbWinUsbApi.dll - application extension
CWMWritter - windows batch file
mmcblk0p13 - file
run.sh - SH file
zergRush - file

thats all that came in the folder :/

Smith is correct about the file and his earlier post was correct about the problem. Here's how to fix the problem because you will need to see this info installing the ROM or nearly anything else as well.

In windows go to

control panel

folder options

view

find the entry hide file extensions for known file types and uncheck it.

if you still have CWM open in another explorer window refresh it.

You just don't see the file extension because its a windows file extension and the mac .sh is not. Not sure why he didn't name the files the same but yes CWMwriter batch file (.bat) is it.

I transferred a backup copy of my stock rom to my pc and left the original on the phone. The one on the phone is how you will use the recovery. Im not even sure how you could get the copy off the pc back on the phone if you couldn't get into recovery or from the SD card. But hey you never know and redundancy is good with high tech electronics.

You don't need to use anything fancy for that. Turn off USB debugging enable USB mass storage and then plug it up to the pc wait for the auto run prompt click open to view files look for Clockworkmod folder then backup folder and it will be in there with a number for a name. Drag and drop it to a folder in your folder viewer on the left where you want it. It won't remove the copy from the sd card and its quicker than copy and pasting.

About the Factory Wipe.
You can copy the entire contents of your sd card to your pc exactly the same way I give for the backup and reinstall it. Thats what I did when I installed my bigger sdcard. it will prompt you to merge or replace some files tell it to skip them. As with my SD card swap the phone put files on it during the boot and format. The files it will prompt you for are the files the phone wont wipe but will be written as part of installing the new rom and by saying skip during the prompt you leave the new ones.

There are also apps that do app back up this is just quicker. You go to
computer click on the drive that is you phones sd card and drag n drop or copy to a folder on the pc.

Sorry about all the edits. 6 sheets past 3 to the wind.

No i meant when in clockwork mod recovery must roms want you to do a factory reset would it erase everything off the phone?? I know that it wouldnt erase anything off my sd card but what about the phone thats what i dont get wouldnt you lose txts contacts apps etc? And for the backup i just havr to connect my phone to the pc open up my sdcard folder and look for clockwork golder and just basically copy and paste it somewhere safe on my pc?

Yes if u do a factory reset all your info is gone. Many apps allow u 2.backup info so back up as much as u can... installing a new rom usally does require a factory reset.... cwm does back up everything. If you restore I will put u back to the state when you hit backup.... u don't have to save backup on you pc however it would be a smart idea incase somthinh happends to your sd card...
