I understand the kernal changed and radio, but is there going to be a point were ota will push to my phone? There are a lot of topics on this but they get mushed after awhile. So the short answer and what i have to do to get ota. Or point me to that thread. Thanks guys and girls

To answer your first question: In my opinion, No. I don't think you will ever see an OTA update while on 7.893.

Second question: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/474160-5-5-893-fxz-file-leaked.html

ok. got it to 5.5.893. still same theme on phone but all else back to stock. the one thing is there are no updates ota. it said my phone is up to date is this right? still losing data by work. so i will no tomorrow how or if this helped.

That's right. 5.5.893 is the latest OTA. There was a very limited push of 5.9.901 to a select few people, but it did not go to the masses and nobody can really explain why certain people received that OTA.

It seems to have been pushed to people who had made a formal report of data drops to Verizon/Motorola prior to the push of 5.9.901. No one has indicated if it was Verizon or Motorola or either that they filed the report. No one has reported that they have ever been successful in requesting a copy after that one-time release-that-wasn't-a-release.

Now I'm confused ...

5.5.886 - original version
5.5.893 - OTA pushed to everyone in early December
5.9.901 - not released yet may or may not be the next OTA pushed to everyone

To be "stock" and receive future OTAs you probably have to be at the stock version that is currently 5.5.893.

There was an earlier message (from someone else) on how to get from your leaked version to the stock 5.5.893.

So ... are you planning to go to 5.5.893 and if yes, have you done it?

Ditto.... As to the confused part.

What method did you use to get back to 5.5.893 ?

I used the first method I linked that was originally posted by John Galt (I think) and I am at stock 5.5.893 (no root) and I have BU Assistant.

Look in the following: Settings/Accounts If the Backup Assistant isn't listed try adding an account and you should see backup assistant and be able to add it.

sorry bout the confusion. i did revert. however i still have the theme on my phone. didnt understand it could be there without root. i have all the bloat back but back up assistant. i need the back up assistant. when i merged my contact from ba to google, it did not merge right. put numbers in notes and stuff like that. so i want to go straight from the ba. sorry to not explain it right.

Did you check in your Accounts settings to see if it was there?

I don't have the BUA icon in my programs menu, but it is on my phone.

I am also still on leaked 5.7.893, and the Bionic is running just fine. Because of that I am hesitant to mess with it. I've read just about everything I could find about this on numerous forums, watched a couple of youtube videos on the process and have downloaded the zip file for Bionic Path Saver 1-click method to my computer. But still I'm on leaked 5.7.893. Just can't seem to muster the courage to pull the trigger. I may just sit tight and wait to see if there really is an issue with 5.7.893 not receiving the next OTA.

I was in the same boat as you...I had 5.7.893 and was afraid to go through the whole restore-update process based on a lot of people having issues. But I was having so many data drops that I decided it was finally worth it to give it a shot since the process sounds so simple. I read as much as I could on the topic and went through it without a single issue. I'm now rooted on the .901 build and I haven't noticed ANY data drops yet.

Which process did you use to get to 5.5.893?

you are AMAZING!!!!!! it was there.

Glad you found it.

The only reason I knew it was there was I went through the same exact grief you did. My only issue was that I didn't come here and ask the same question you did. Instead I spent hours screwing with my phone trying to figure out why the original firmware/software didn't have the apps that my phone did when it came out of the box.

Live and learn I guess. I'm just a typical guy that doesn't like to read manuals or instructions......or stop to ask for directions either. That's why I got an Android with Google Navigation. :)

I used the PathSaver method with the revision that was added to help properly root the .901 build. I know it's a no-no to mention other forums, but I found the bulk of my information from droidforums.net and their bionic forum. There are a TON of links over there about the process and what to do if it goes wrong. I would start there to read up on all the issues and successes people are having.

Except that using that method will cause me to lose all of my data and apps. Again we're back to the phone is working fine and I really just don't feel like reolading everything. Even if it's backed up, it's still painful.

I just used this path saver method and all my data is still on the phone, and I am now running 5.9.901, reverted to 5.5.893 before I did too.
