Wondering if anyone has seen this. The 4g signal in my house is low so I use wifi at home. My wifi it's not strong in the master bedroom so I added a Diamond network extender (it uses the same ssid). My laptop seamlessly transfers to the the stronger signal . However, the gnex stays connected to whatever signal it's on even if it's the weaker signal. It will connect to the stronger signal if I turn wifi off then back on. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to switch automatically?

When your GN stays connected to the weaker WIFI signal, does it ever lose the signal completely? If not then I personally would say 'so what' :)

While on your GN and connected to the WIFI with the weaker signal, does your GN exhibit sub-par network/data performance?

I love flashing! Lol.

I know you've tried a couple kernels. Which one is best for battery?

Me too!!

That is my #1 priority in a kernel :)

Imoseyons have always been best in the battery dept w/o sacrificing smoothness until he got to 1.6 and 1.6.1 and 1.6.4. He's up to 1.6.6 and battery drain issues from the previous 1.6'rs are supposed to be fixed now. I haven't tried it yet.

imoseyons 1.2 is the best I've tried so far. After 48 hours with Faux's .9m kernel it just about matches imoseyons 1.2 but with the later Linux kernel updates so that's nice.

Are you still on stock kernel that came with aokp? If so, and you decide to try faux's, you won't have to flash the reset kernel beforehand. Only the .9m kernel.

Boy I'm gabbin aren't I :p I'd try imo's 1.6.6 or faux's .9m

I'm on imoseyon's 1.6.4
So I'll either try the newest 1.6.6 or maybe go with faux's for a switch .
Thanks!!

Is it working alright for you battery life wise?

If you go to faux you'll need to flash the 4.0.3 reset kernel to set ramdisk back to stock. Just don't forget that step ! yw! :)

anyone using our nexie to call much? (go figure, right?) what are your thoughts?

my fiance has the droid incredible 2 and call quality is just pitiful when i'm talking to her. it's choppy to the point where it's noticeable, but it's not like she's not understandable. but i have to pay attention to make out most of the words. almost every call i have to ask, "is it my phone or yours?"... but she's never complains about being able to hear me clearly. i really haven't had much experience talking to anyone else - she's really the only one i talk to regularly throughout the week.

i've tried speaker and bluetooth. speaker phone is prob worse since the sound has to bounce off and muffled through the phone.

and if she's driving it's even worse.

I talk quite a bit on it....and listen. After owning a Bionic (moto superb call quality), BBerry, Eris, & Incredible, the call quality on my GN is excellent! Both in how I sound to others and how others sound to me, Bluetooth, speakerphone, earpiece, I love it all :)

Yes, it has a hard time doing anything on the weaker signal, that's why I added the extender. I can force it to switch to the stronger signal by toggling the wifi on and off. Without the extender, it struggles on the weak wifi and if I turn off the wifi I either get 4g with no bars or 3g with one or two bars. The wifi extender works well, I just don't understand why the gnex does not switch automatically to the stronger signal if it sees a remembered network.

Maybe there is some kind of app in market that will list your preferred connections and you can put them in order of how/when you want them to connect. Just like you can order your connections in Windows as far as which you want it to connect to 1st.

What about WIFI manager?

That's a good suggestion, but I need it to do it by signal strength because it depends on where I am in the house and which signal is stronger relative to where I am.

Ahh I see. Well in that case something like Tasker or Locale in the market could do this. They are not cheap apps just another suggestion =)

OR use NFC task launcher and some stickers (it's awesome!) and create tasks based on where you are. NFC task launcher can create this task and you can customize it to connect to certain access points or WIFI spots

edit: matter of fact the more I think about NFC could be your ticket. Have you played with the GN's NFC yet?

Have you tried checking the "Avoid poor connections" options in the wifi settings? That may help, let us know...

if i went from leankernel to
full phone wipe/format/clear everything you could clear in CW
installed AOKP 17
then flashed faux .9

am I ok? or do I need to flash the reset kernel and then faux .9?

i though going to aokp cleared my kernel back to stock.

also, i'm hearing great things about faux 10 with regards to battery life

also, if you guys use leankernel, there's a tweaks package by jake that made a world of difference in performance. the phone actually felt like it was overclocked for real.

related question...I tried using it with a wired headset made for phone calls, and it sounded very quiet. Then I tried it with the headset it came with, and it sounded very loud and clear. I then tried it with the iphone headset, loud and clear. What those headsets have in common is that they are more like for listening to music than talking on the phone. They go in both ears, and the mic isn't fixed and they don't clip on.

So I am wondering if anyone's run into this and might recommend a model of a mono headset with fixed mic that might work as well (read "as loud") as the stereo headsets?

Wow I never knew this thx! Although I don't have this option must be the ROM I'm running are you on stock?

I don't have this option either, rooted but on stock. I am looking under advance in wifi settings and only have three choices: network notification, keep wifion during sleep, and wifi frequency band. There is no option for "avoid poor connections". hmmm

Just starting with NFC, I like the ideas previously talked about in this forum of having the NFC trigger Tasker, eg for the car dock. If I can't find a way to have it automatically choose the stronger signal when in preferred networks, I may try it for this purpose as well.
