Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Good Morning!

I just wanted to vent as the battery life and poor signal are just getting to me. I was talking to a coworker that just bought the rezound and I had him pull up his battery usage and Android OS was only using 3% vs 62% on my GNex. I will take my phone off the charger at 7am and by 1pm I will be at 40% with hardly any use.

I know a lot of you will tell me i should root it, try a rom, etc and maybe i should but the reality is the phone should work properly out of the box.

I already exchanged it once and I'm hoping Google will put out an update soon but after owning the TB and having to manage my day around my phone's battery is getting old.

The whole thing just makes what is a very awesome phone disappointing.

Locked bootloader or not, the razr maxx is could be calling my name.

Whew...i feel better. Thanks!

Anybody else having Bluetooth issues.

My son got me a fancy Blueant T1. It's supposed to announce the name of inbound phone numbers so I know who's calling without looking. Also supposed to "read" my emails or sms to me.

It's announcing the wrong caller name, and when it does it sounds like a drunken lady robot. Second T1.

Correspondence below with blueant.

Just want to see if I'm the unlucky one, or if others have the same issues

Dear Rich,

Thank you for contacting us.

With regards to your concern, i apologize however, we are having issues with the android version 4.0 or the ice cream sandwich version, this issue is not limited to Blue Ant devices but with other bluetooth devices as well. We'll let you know once we have the updater for this version.

Thanks

Customer Query

Case Number: 000xxxx

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus
BlueAnt Device: T1 Rugged Bluetooth Headset
Query:

This device doesn't work with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with ice cream sandwich 4.0.2 software. Voice announce, reading emails flat does not work. I can use it to make phone calls manually, but it won't "accept" or answer calls. There is a man's voice on the start up that you can understand, but there is a womans voice that announces every call that's virtually unintelligible, and always the same inbound phone "name", even though it's not.

Do you have an eta for a fix for ice cream sandwich 4.0.2, or higher since everything is going to be ICS by Fall 2012?

Quite disappointing.

i was a big proponent of staying stock for as long as i could, precisely because i felt like i should enjoy it how it came. but after seeing the reports of people and their battery usage with various kernels, i couldn't resist. you could always unlock, root, and flash a kernel to help you out.

from my experience yesterday, it was a pretty busy day at work so i wasn't using my phone much. took it off the charger at 730am and at 11:30pm was down to 27%. i get terrible signal at work (-120dBm aka zero bars on 3G, and once i'm home i was on wifi). androidos was indeed the highest culprit on the list with 28%. i'll take 16hrs of use (using ext battery) any day.

i'm curious why we haven't seen an update out yet either. it's been about a month now - i was expecting something within the first couple weeks now that plenty of people have had their way with issues, etc.

on a related note - i'm curious how many people are playing words with friends and have notifications. i've since stopped playing that all together and have had noticeabley better battery usage.

i've used a very basic Jabra BT ear piece without any problems, made phone calls, and used voice actions.

looking around at some of the threads here and other sites, i've seen more than one issue with BT - but mostly regarding battery drain.

Morning all!
I'm awaiting someone to come in and help clean and paint over the damage from our ridiculous water leak last week. So far, he's not here. Anyway, day off and it's pretty crummy weather outside so I think I'll take myself to the movies this afternoon. Our "indie" theater downtown has some good selections. Has anyone seen or can recommend:
Shame (I know the subject matter is a touch taboo, but the trailer and reviews have been great)
The Descendants (not sure if I should see it, I know my wife wants to)
A Dangerous Method (reviews are quite mixed)
Pariah (this one looks great)

Thanks for Jbdan on the kernel recommendation. I am always looking for battery life for a kernel and leans just ain't cutting it for me now. Conversely, kernels for my OG Droid were always for speed as the battery life was generally pretty stellar.

I've heard VERY good things about The Descendants. I know a few people who worked on it too - in Hawaii, jerks. I've also heard Pariah is really good as well. One of those two would be my personal picks I think.

Thanks. Yeah, I know Decendents won a couple GGs. Ugh, hard decision, and they're all at around 2pm so I can't make it a whole day at the movies :)

 I didn't know BW had a forecast feature! How do you get to it? Also, I love your battery icon in the top bar. Is that a feature of your ROM, or did you do it some other way? I'd love to have mine like that.

Uh oh, there's a woot-off. Productivity at work = decreasing.

Woot

 No idea what I would do then! But let us know what you see and if you like it!

Not much. I'm rooted and rom'd but that's about it! You? How are the pups?

They're great! They're going to be small it seems. Sort of a surprise, but a good one. They have almost all their big girl teeth in and they're still 16 and 20 lbs at 18.5 weeks! They're getting their breadboxes taken out in the beginning of Feb so that should be interesting. haha.

One good story for them is from NYE. Boo, like her namesake from To Kill A Mockingbird, is afraid of a lot of things. Our neighbors set of fireworks, right across the street. And not the small kind! Well she was terrified and her daddy tried to take her outside to pee -- she hid under our deck for 3 hours! We had to crawl in the mud underneath it (its only 2.5-3 feet off the ground) to get her out.

Just click on the weather icon on the stock widget. It's pretty sweet with some nice animation. Not as slick as Sense, but close. When our Flyer was unlocked (just turning it on) when it was snowing out, the whole screen kind of cracked and had snow flakes on it. Pretty cool stuff!

Discovered one VERY ANNOYING new addition with Android 4.0: You MUST have a PIN or Pattern unlock in order to have a Security Certificate on your phone to connect to a secure Wireless connection. This blows. :(

Not sure if this is only for ICS. I remarked earlier my wife had to have a PIN unlock on her Bionic in order to have a corporate/server based email account. Sucks, I know.

The battery actually part of the Black Exodus theme. I think he may have changed it when he updated it to run with AOKP 17. I'll let you know.
And Dreadnatty answered the animation of Beautiful Widgets

Awww. Poor Boo. But I think pics are in order.....:)

Is this something our community of devs will be able to get rid of?

Nothing I'm terribly concerned about since I don't use any of it myself on my Nexus. Wifey is on whatever leftover ROM I had on her Bionic when I gave it to her (probably some outdated Liberty one).
This definitely seems like something that is well in bedded in Android that even with root would be hard to get rid of. I think it's something that Goog has added to appease and supplant BB users in the corporate world. I hate PIN unlocks, I have no time for them nor do I have a ton of personally sensitive info on my phone (don't care about contacts, but email is a different story).

I'll have to wait and see what happens. I don't like a pin or pattern to unlock either. Its a pain in the ass
