Razr or rezound

I am eligable for upgrade and am deciding between the razr and rezound. The recent price drop of rezound makes me curious how long until the razr follows suit (espicially since they announced a drop at CES). Has anybody owner both that can provide insight?

I did not have both, but narrowed it down to these two units when my Nexus did not get good connectivity. I did a lot of research and went and had both units in hand. Both are great devices. I liked the Amuled screen better although the Rezound screen has a higher resolution.

Rezounds runs sense, if you like sense that gives the rezound an edge. The rezound also comes with beat box, some crazy music playing software installed as well as a pair of dr dre headphones. For me, I do not use my phone for music so that was no big deal.

The aesthetics of the razr and the reviews I read said that the antenna and connectivity on the Motorola is top notch. For me, I need the phone to be a phone first. I thought that the Rezound was a little bulky, similar to its cousin the Tbolt.

Do some research online, go to the store and put both devices in your hand. Good luck!

The rezound bootloaders has been unlocked. There are many threads on androidfoums that debate the technical merits between the two phones if you want to do a bit of a search (I meantioned the bootloader because it is a recent change that you might miss).

Don't think we should repeat all the information in other threads but in a nut shell they different pros/cons with regards to voice quality, sound, screen technology (oled pentile vs ips), battery life, default launcher (motoblur vs sense), ... There is no right answer as it really depends on what you personally prefer; I almost went with the rezound but ended up with the razr.

I've owned both...and now the Nexus, which happens to be my favorite out of all three phones! Buts that's me...

As for which one out of the Razr or Rezound?

I'd go with the Razr...over all just felt like a snappier, more polished product to me. Sense is just bulky, and bogs down the phone IMO. For a dual core phone it just felt a lil on the laggy side.

However...the Razr I liked, and still do! I just opted for an all Vanilla experience with the Nexus.

I obviously picked the razr; and I really don't regret my choice. The rezound was a close second; the nexus a distant third. Basically what I did is I spent a couple of hours with each phone (not quite so much with the nexus due to the late arrival) and did a few things I would normally do as well as made test phone calls. I was really close to choosing the rezound but folks said i sounded better on the razr and a few people had issues with the rezound I did not want to deal with with (hissing and lcd developing dead pixels). Mind you every phone has issues (a lot of folks over at xda complain about the razr screen; so I do not want to paint a picture of the razr being perfect and the rezound being trouble prone).

If you look at user reviews of the razr and rezound on amazon and verizon wireless you will see that folks are very happy with the rezound so it has a lot to offer; it just wasn't the right choice for me (though I'm sure would have been perfectly happy with it had I gone that route). The nexus I played with had a few issues (voices sounded funny (distorted); speaker was very soft for ringer/speaker phone; the first few days a lot of people were complaing about signal issues (and folks who have the phone at the office mention that 4g reception is not stable - boston is a very strong 4g location).

Anyways - if you do go with the razr; I would recommend the maxx as battery life can be iffy if you use the phone heavily.

I have the Razr,my wife has the Rezound.
I love the features and radios on the Razr.
I love the shape and headphones on the Rezound.
Overall I like the Razr interface better.
If I could do it all over again I would have waited (if i knew) for the RAZR MAXX in late January.
The 3200 mAH battery is huge as both the HTC and the Razr eat the stock batteries up in 8 hours of heavy use.
The Razr Max will still be thinner than the HTC or at least very close in thickness.

They are both great phones and are both better than the Galaxy Nexus. I would say that you should wait another week or two and pick up the Razr Maxx. With the 3300 mHa battery the Razr is just about the perfect smartphone and it is still pretty thin and light.

I have both RAZR and Rezound. I do like Sense - a lot! I feel it gives the phone a very polished feel that isn't there on the RAZR. To me, interface aesthetics are important, since that's what you use all the time.

The Beats audio on Rezound is a great improvement, and if you listen to music on your phone at all, it's well worth it. They say in the documentation that Beats is designed to work best with the included headphones, but I use Bose and find them to be better than the ones included by far. You will get the DSP enhancements of the Beats circuitry with anything you plug in though, even in the car as long as you use the headphone connection. I have read some folks imply that the Beats is nothing more than an EQ preset and I have to strongly disagree with that.

All that being said, the RAZR is amazing in every other respect. I get better battery life with my RAZR, the form factor is great, and like the Rezound, the phone is clear, loud and has a great signal. I will say that even after the most recent update however, the Rezound is clearly more stable than the RAZR. I have had the RAZR reboot on me randomly about once or twice a week, where the Rezound has just been rock solid stable.

I love them both, and feel that unless Beats or form factor is a huge thing for you, you can't go wrong with either of them. Both are just exceptional phones.

Honestly...that's not the topic here in this thread...but I have to 100% disagree on that statement.

I've owned all 3 ....And to anyone asking I would 100% recommend the Razr...it has a very simple interface, an amazing feat of technology in its frame and build quality, the Super Amoled screen is very good and exhibits very punchy and vibrant colors, and over all as a smart phone its very good, it also has a very high COOL Status stamp on it as well.

Rezound also has strong points....Beats, a 720p screen, a very good camera, the fact that it works well as a smart phone, a removable battery, and Sense for those who like a skinned OS that is fairly easy to learn. Over all its a very worthy device...However IMO its thickness and washed out LCD screen just don't do it for me.

But to say they are both better then the Nexus is based on what?

IMO...the Nexus beats them out just on the fact that it'll be Future proof for some time..

I have zero complaints about my Nexus. The screen is down right beautiful, the form factor is light years better then anything else available, its Super fast in all aspects ranging from doing small task like navigating, to going on the internet...its just lites out fast in every area I can think off, the camera for me works just fine with its zero shutter lag, and even though its only a 5 megapixel shooter, it does me just fine in snapping pics on the go. Moving deeper, as a phone this thing rocks, amazingly Super Loud and clear...best I've owned in that area. And with the Nexus I get Stock ICS and no headaches with having to wait for updates. IMO the Nexus is the Best Android phone that I've ever owned. And both people that I know that have it...share exactly the same honest feelings as me...And both like me previously owned the Razr as well....So that tells its own tale.

What I'm saying is some people have to try for them selves...but to say hands down the Nexus isn't as good as the Rezound or Razr is pure foolery...

I flat out refuse to own a Samsung. Period. That being said, I'm sure the gnex is an amazing device. I have owned a couple HTC phones before the razr, and really liked them except for a few issues. I'm sure with the hardware the rezound has takes it light years ahead of what I'm used to lol.

Any of these phones would be a great choice. They all have their merits and detractors. The question you need to ask when choosing is what do you want from it?

Evey single person I know with the nexus has returned it due to reception issues...if you have no data 70% of the time the device is inferior....

With that said I am still torn between the razr and rezound ....the recent rezound unlocking, as well as the seemingly non-existant data drops have me leaning that way, but I definately like the form factor of the razr better. If I do decide on the raze I will wait to get the maxx however-i have very large hhands so the added bulk doesn't bother me. Plus I now have a thunderbolt which feels like a brick in the hand.

Most people are biased for the phones they bought to different extents, and that include you and me as well.

Nexus does have a very pretty screen. I made a switch from Nexus to Razr a few days back (had Nexus for 3 weeks) and while I could not notice any difference at first, when I looked up closely I spotted some jaggedness in Razr's small texts which I could not see on Nexus's HD screen. Still barely noticeable in everyday use though.

I haven't used Rezound other than messing with it a bit at different stores, but it does have higher ppi than even Nexus and 4S, so that is definitely a big plus. If form wasn't a factor at all, I probably would have picked Rezound, but like you said, I personally found it a bit too thick and heavy for my liking.

Continuing on the form factor, for me Razr beats both Nexus and Rezound by far. It feels very sturdy, and its thinness along with its Kevlar back look very stylish and premium. I've seen posts by people who think Razr is ugly though too, and of course people do have different opinions on aesthetics.

I don't agree with you on the speakers though. When I made the exchange, the one thing I immediately noticed was that Razr's speaker was louder and clearer. Most of the reviews I've found on Razr and Nexus also support my findings. I was not at all satisfied with the volume on Nexus, so I was using Volume+, but then it caused a little drop in sound quality. I don't have any personal experience with Rezound in this area, but from what I've read, it is actually better than both Nexus and Razr.

As far as Nexus being future-proof (as in always having the latest OS), seeing as most people will be getting a new phone in less than 2 years, I don't see it as a big advantage. I think both the HTC Sense and Motorola's custom UI look pretty nice although ICS looks a bit cleaner.

Speed of opening apps and browsing has been quite close in Nexus and Razr, but Razr has been slightly faster.

Camera is so-so on both Nexus and Razr. I did like the no-lag shutter on Nexus, but Razr will get it too when it gets ICS. I heard Rezound has the best camera out of these three phones, but I obviously haven't gotten a chance to test that out.

I agree that there isn't a clear winner between Nexus, Razr, and Rezound (and 4S too to be honest), but the decision will depend on your aesthetic preferences (which phone looks the best?), how you are planning on using your phone (Rooting and often installing new ROM's? Mostly phonecall and browsing? Listening to 30GB of music? Developing new apps?), and how you feel about ICS (Hate HTC and Moto's UI's? Gotta have ICS right now or don't mind waiting a few months?).

Just a comment on razr vs rezound speaker; the rezound is a bit louder than the razr; but I found the razr had better fidelity (esp in the high tones). My ears are less than perfect but to me the rezound had a bit of static or hissing in the high tones and it seemed to emphasize the bass. The razr (to me) is clearer but it is not night and day. The rezound is good and the boost in volume is something to consider. The nexus (to me) was the worse. From reading many reviews it seems that some nexus are definitely better than others - at least that is my impression. Also some folks indicate the speaker on the nexus can easily be blown (which I do not understand given how soft it is to begin with). Anyways there could very well be some qc issues with all three phones causing varying experience; though as I said above statistically people are very happy with the rezound.

This one caught me off guard between the 2...cuz so far the RAZR has better phone reception, might not be by much...and the Rezound might have better 4G reception. I havent compared them for 4G at my job with the leak for the RAZR...but the Rezound grabbed 4G on my floor, something the RAZR never did.

They both have better phone reception the the G Nex I had. Something happend cuz the G Nex started out good for phone reception, then it started going down hill the closer I got to the return date.

Me being a current RAZR owner that tried it out for 14 days...it had its good points. But the one area I have a big want n need in....it didnt deliver. The Rezound delivered better than the G Nex did. The RAZR does too. In fact....since the antenna is on the battery door for the Rezound....it could deliver better than the RAZR too. They are both neck n neck tho and did better than the G Nex in that one area. There is another side to that tale of folks that tried both, all 3 and chose the RAZR or Rezound, or folks who switched from a G Nex to a RAZR or Rezound.....and are happy.

I agree 100% about ppl needing to try them out for themselves. Its his opinion tho...and mine too. Not saying hands down better....but I feel that overall the Rezound and RAZR are the better....phones...I look at the overall package. And what would be deal breakers for me, important to me, for me. We all know there is no perfect phone, and we all have different wants n needs.

And there it is....what do you want from your phone? Decide that and it becomes easier. Or should become easier. Agree 100% When you factor in wants, needs, preferences....there will never be a clear cut winner, best phone. Its all about whats better to you, for you. I have the RAZR and Rezound...and in 2 days I was more happy with it than in 2 weeks with teh G Nex. That also tells a tale...

Not picking on you sean, I know you go thru more phones than there are phones made...lol. I prefer the feel in hand of Rezound and G Nex over the RAZR. I prefer the power and volume button setup on the G Nex. I like the screen of the G Nex vs. the RAZR. I also see why ppl really like the Rezound screen too. Take away the washed out viewing angles and give it better black and colors IMO and it could arguably be the best screen on the market. I really do prefer Amoled screens now due to the colors. Like the fast boot up times of the G Nex.

I wanted to watch Netflix in the car ther other day and put down the Rezound and picked up the RAZR. RAZR did better in sunlight vs the Rezound. All these phones have pros n cons....

Liked that it was real easy to root the phone and unlock the bootloader on the G Nex, although I had some headaches, probably due to something with my PC. And bringing it back to stock was easy.

The Rezound I have and the G Nex might be on par for phone reception. Wild cuz they both started out fine. I think going in n out of different types of reception areas gives them issues for phone use. The RAZR handles that batter so far.

The more time I spend with these other phones....the more it looks like I shoulda just went with the RAZR and called it a day. I did want to carry at least 2 phones tho...For me, phone reception is more important than data reception.

The Rezound is nice for 4G reception tho. ...

I had the G Nex from 1-5 to 1-14.... I just got the Rezound 1-14. You right tho, you really cant go wrong. What I would advize ppl to do is not compare phones in person over at least 2 weeks. It will make the choice that much harder in some cases...lol But...it is best to compare these phones in person over an extended period of time, just for the ease of mind it will give. If you can.

Reception in certain areas is something that has been around and debated for years. Some phone manufactures are just better at it than others. I also feel that RIM, Blackberries are probably better than Motorola for reception. Nokia's are great too. Wont catch me with a Blackberry now tho so thats the end of that. Nokia is another story...as I actually like some things about WP7. IF I ever left Android WP7 would be my next phone.

Not to mention I have the nexus and the camera is pretty shitty. Pictures are grainy and who cares if you can take quick pictures if they look bad. Updates and that are nice but for me it comes down to actually being able to use the phone and the poor radios in the nexus( and every samsung for that matter) just don't cut it for me and many others it seems.

I personally don't want ICS right now. Alot of apps are not compatible with ICS at the moment. Over 50% of all android devices are still running gingerbread. Meanwhile, .06% are running ICS. Ill gladly wait for ICS until it is more developed and mainstream.

Except no matter how fast the updates come they won't fix the crap radio's in the nexus(yes I have one and installed the leaked radios from 4.0.3 and they didn't help) Not to mention with how buggy ICS is atm and how since 99% of phones aren't running ICS most apps still do not function properly on ICS.
