Will metroPcs improve 4g speeds?

metroPcs seems to be very proud of their 4g service, they have the 4g logo plastered all over their stores and website. but, in reality we aren't getting 4g speeds. On average I have 3mb download and like 2mb upload, its not bad, it like a very good 3g speed on att. when are we going to start seeing at least 10mb or 20mb like on verizon, will we ever?

Yup. They are going to fully develop 4g connection. As of now, they have been limiting 4g bandwidth speeds to stabilize the network for us, customer.;

Yup. They are going to fully develop 4g connection. As of now, they have been limiting 4g bandwidth speeds to stabilize the network for us, customer.;

I doubt that, the unlimited plan is what attracts their subscriber base for the prices it offers. Without it they would see a drop off in customers, why would anyone stay with them, have to pay upfront for the phone and pay higher prices for a plan?

The unlimited plans for a flat rate are why people are here, it's certainly not for the phones(thought they are improving that part) and it's not for the stellar CS they have or for the awesome network(that is getting a lot better too btw).



Metro wants to compete with the big kids and I for one think that they will get there sooner than people think.

I also live here in miami and i only get about 2-3 mbps and that is when i have full bars. THe speed is decent but it is complete garbage compared to verizons. Then again you get what you pay for guys. If they increase the speed they are going to increase the price or change the unlimited plan.

Either way Metro is still the best value around by far.

On what basis are you implying that they will increase their price as they increase the speed. Right now, as far as i know the speed is still under development so we could be running at 11+mb but metro has it "capped" to regulate the network structure. But later on the speed will be unleash!!!

MetroPCS is always going to have lower LTE speed due to their spectrum issues. They are having to push LTE signal through narrow channels on unusual frequencies.

And by the way NO ONE is getting "4G" speeds yet. LTE standards goal is 100mbps. Verizon and AT&T will eventually hit it, but they aren't there yet. LTE is a "4G" technology, but no carrier is true "4G" yet. Everyone is taking marketing license by claiming 4G. Verizon is the closest, but even they aren't hitting true 4G speeds. MetroPCS is also taking advantage of the marketing.

Having an LTE network -- actually beating Verizon in being first -- helps Metro get better phones. Whatever is made for Verizon (and now Sprint as they are also going to LTE) can be easily modified for MetroPCS.

I'm getting avg 3mbps for $50 per month, which is so much better than the 70kbps for $50 per month I was getting last year at this time.

The MetroPCS CEO said last year the max possible speed at this time (due to spectrum issues) was 8mbps, and that was under perfect conditions. Technological advances may improve that, and if MetroPCS were to get additional spectrum that would change the game, but under current circumstances, I don't see how there can be much difference.

MetroPCS right now has EXCESS CAPACITY on the LTE network so I don't see any evidence they are capping LTE speeds. The truth is it just can't go any faster right now.

We have 4 million to 5 million [subscribers] we can still get on the LTE network. As you know, LTE is a carrier by carrier technology and we put in a 5x5 configuration in most markets. We have latent capacity and although we have interest in LTE products we aren't anywhere near the 4 to 5 million at this point. We have unused capacity. All the network investment we are carrying. We see this as upside opportunity.

I love how the masses always take a great marketing plan and automatically believe it to be the gospel truth.

Metro will find more spectrum to purchase, it's only a matter of time and I for one am patient when it comes to them doing it.

The current plan structure and price just make it more economical to go with them and the fact they are getting better and better phones just makes the "big three" all the more less attractive with their over priced add on plans.

That mentions the transition to VoLTE (Voice over LTE), which in all likelyhood will cause average LTE speeds to drop since that bandwidth will be used for making voice calls.
