Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Hi everybody! I've been lurking around since the early days of the pre-release thread. I love just about everything about my Gnex, however two issues have really been bothering me.
First, the external speaker quality seems rather un-dynamic. I installed the paid version of Volume+, which does help somewhat, but the speaker is still nowhere near my old Droid OG. The second issue is the vibration motor. Mine is so weak that I frequently don't feel it even if it's in my pants pocket. Again, not even close to my old Droid.
Can these issues be fixed? Has anyone else experienced this?Any input would be greatly appreciated. Please forgive me if this has already been covered.
Thanks!

not sure about the speaker, but some applications (handcent, gosms) allow you to customize the vibration. i used to do this on my OG cuz i could never feel the vibration. but making it multiple short vibrations, and a little longer, i was able to feel the vibration better.

Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch - Good Vibrations - YouTube

ha. sorry the vibrations queued up the song and i had to find it...

anywho, i just found this on the market and might be what you're lookin for. https://market.android.com/details?...1bGwsMSwyLDEsIm5ldC54ZGV2ZWxvcC52aWJyYXRvciJd

Well, the Feds are starting early!

They just shut down MegaUpload for violating piracy laws. This is completely bass-ackwards: instead of going after the download sites, why aren't they going after the uploaders?

Because there's no money in that

At the risk of pissing off the majority of the Forum, Lounge and the populace at large...

I have had nothing but trouble from sites like MegaUpload, YouTube and others for knowingly hosting and actually protecting obvious pirates. I represent film producers, directors, writers, artists and, very significantly, comic book publishers. I find my clients' pirated IP all over these sites. I follow the rules and file a DCMA complaint, but the websites either ignore me completely, or refer me to some non-existent place to complain, or take forever to take down the infringing material, by which time thousands of illegal copies have already been downloaded. I lose money to piracy every hour of every day.

It is impossible for me to track down the person who uploaded the illegal copies. Why? Because they are anonymous posters and the host sites REFUSE to disclose that information without a court order, which takes even more time and money and again, too little too late. And the sites RARELY if ever ban a poster, even those with clear records of illegal copying.

So the best solution is to crack down on the sites that knowingly aid and abet in copyright infringement. Not the "maybe" or judgment-call cases, the sure things. Like the major comic book that has been posted by some dude in Romania. Like the EA video game that was posted by jollyroger4637. The site hosts are definitely in a position to police the material and posters to their site. They have a slew of employees and lawyers (I know, I've dealt with them). If the sites were just a TINY bit more diligent in protecting against infringement, and less cavalier about the problem, I don't think these laws would have been necessary. But they have really turned a deaf ear and blind eye to the problem. MegaUpload ignores complaints most of the time. YouTube is very slow to respond and doesn't address obvious cases promptly. So in a sense the government was forced to make them a little more accountable. They brought it on themselves.

I don't necessarily agree with the mechanics of the proposed laws. Perhaps they are too heavy-handed in certain areas. But conceptually, I hope that most of us agree that it is wrong to illegally download.

Some people unfortunately think that "fair use" means that they can download anything that's on the internet because "it's there." They're just wrong and it's still theft.

Rant over.

While I agree with IHMTreo's opinion regarding online piracy, I see a natural problem with government trying to control the situation. Passing laws in an attempt to "fix" the problem typically hurts the do gooders more so than the bad guys. The miscreants will inevitably find a way around the law while the guys doing nothing legally wrong will be caught up in the proverbial nets. Instead of getting government involved, media companies need to focus on getting hardware companies to buy into their plan for reducing piracy.

Sony has done an exemplary job of implementing software into their devices that recognizes when digital content does not have a qualified "signature" and either stops playing or drops the audio on playback. No government involved, no lawful product users affected, bad guys directly targeted. A win for all parties. I can not say a law passed by Big Brother would have the same effect.

I don't disagree with you. I just wish the host sites were a little more responsive to piracy complaints and a little more willing to do something to prevent it instead of going with the "not my problem" attitude. To me, the best government is a government that generally leaves you alone.

Sony's plan sounds great. But it only works for software and digital content. It doesn't help at all with illegal copies of comic books, artwork or other IP not capable of digital signatures or where bad guys strip the signatures before posting.

Piracy = WRONG

Allowing Piracy = WRONG

Acceptance and enjoyment of bootlegged stuff = WRONG

Shutting down sites with millions of uploads and downloads without any due process, expecting them to police every single upload for copyrighted content? Is that reasonable?

Agree

Not reasonable.

OK, I need to read the bill in detail. But from what I see, there is due process. Sites can't be shut down just because someone makes a request. The plaintiff has to go to court, convince the court that infringement actually exists, provide notice to the infringing site; the site has an opportunity to drop the infringer's post and/or claim immunity by taking "technically feasible and reasonable measures"; and false charges expose the claimant to liability. So at first glance, it does not read like Gestapo tactics.

This will really put you to sleep: http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/pdf/112 HR 3261.pdf
Man, why can't they write in English?

Thanks for the link. Not that I'm going to read it because anything from the judiciary anything is going to read like a foreign language. I barely made it through my divorce papers without my eyes bleeding.

LOL. And in your exhausted condition, you should only have a remote in one hand and a cocktail in the other. Hmm, that actually sounds good. See ya later ;)

If Megaupload is knowingly and glibly permitting piracy, then they need to be shut down or at least heavily fined until they get their act straight.

I don't want to, and won't, single anyone out, but:

Anyone who pirates and bootlegs today?

I truly hope they are inspired someday to create something fabulous, work very hard at getting it perfected and published, and then watch all the fruits of their labor and the resulting royalties - royalties which they EARNED - being given away and they earn virtually nothing because of piracy.

When there is no incentive to innovate and create, then no innovation or creativity will take place.

As my grandmother was fond of warning me: the only free cheese is in the mousetrap.

My 0.02 and I'm done, thanks for letting me rant :)

Phone next to me. IPad on lap for games. Coffee in hand. Puppy next to my feet. Really want a sweater or blanket but that requires moving so its not gonna happen right now.

You bring up valid points in a non accusatory way.

Thanks to Netflix and dvdfab I have a crapton of movies. I still buy movies. Thanks rapidshare, megaupload and mediafire I have a crapton of songs. I still buy songs. I would do it again and I'm proud of it. If I created something and some people copied it and passed it around? Oh well. Think differently of me. I don't care. Life goes on. :)

nothing wrong with it for private use...i can see how it's wrong to make money off other people's work. but viewing their art for free is fine by me. maybe then the real artists will stick around and the money grubbing morons who pass their music and movies off as art will finally gtfo.

also: love movies - pay to see them in theater and download for free as many as I can! these people are waging war on some of their best clients!
edit: same for music. love going to shows.
