Spare Parts App: (You) Do Want

Spare parts really only runs on android v1.5 and 1.6 which is prob why many of you haven't noticed any real advance in performance.. eris and droid run on 2.0 and nexus1 on 2.1 which, hopefully are fast enough where it doesn't need it.. tho this forum sounds like that's not the case unfortunately.. but I'm sure the dev will come out with an update for y'all.

And GDE is a customizable home/desktop replacement app similar to pandahome, freshface, home++, etc.. They all have their perks with different special widgets and options that are unique to the app. You can download different themes for your home with skins like nexus1 or hero among tonss of other themes and they come w wallpapers too. GDE let's u have up to six different desktops with new custom transitions like cube and stretch and custom widgets like an application dock and phone history. Some of the other apps give u the option to change ur icons depending on the theme but I'm not really into that. Overall tho, GDE seems to run the cleanest and smoothest for me, especially running with Spare Parts! Everyone seems to have their own opinion obviously.. it really just depends on what u wanna do so try em all!

And they all are going to work ur battery a little more than ur default home, but it was nothing detrimental...
uhhh, my eris is 1.5 . . . i thought the 2.0 update wasnt supposed to be out for it until the end of march?

Okay, how do I turn off the annoying rocking back-and-forth when switching from landscape to portrait and vis-versa ? I tried different variations of Spare Parts settings as well as the phone's display animation setting and have now even removed Spare Parts and it still does it.

There are a few animation settings in Spare Parts, I keep forgetting which does what, but one of them stops that annoyance.. I keep it all off, no use for fades or transitions or animations etc..

Turn off the 'Fancy rotation animation' check box. It's hidden in 'Settings'.

You'll have to re-install Spare Parts, uncheck this box, then uninstall Spare Parts.

Spare Parts isn't a program that does its own things. It's a program that lets you get to menus that are built into your native Android Settings, and toggle those options. You toggled Fancy rotation animation ON, and uninstalled, without turning it OFF.

Nope, I had that turned OFF. I did try it, didn't like it, and turned it off. THEN I uninstalled SP. I'll add it back and try again just to be sure.

Go into Spare Parts and turn it ON. Then rotate your screen to make it do the fancy rotation, in Browser or something. Then go back into Spare Parts and turn it off. Then rotate your screen again to make sure it worked. Then uninstall. It might not register the 'Off' checkbox if you uninstall before you try it once. The 'Off' checkbox might register after you actually rotate the screen one time before you uninstall.

If this doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas. I hate to say hard reset would be the only way to fix, but I don't know of any other app that can edit this setting.

That's at the point I'm at.... I learned to toggle settings on/off, back out of the menus, then toggle it again and I've tried that, in fact. I'd BETTER not have to hard-reset to disable this. :(

That's interesting.

Quirky for sure.

Possibly a) wait a while for our 2.1 update, and I'd bet it would disappear
b) possibly wait for an update to Spare Parts that will miraculously work when you turn the checkbox 'off' (highly doubtful IMO)
c) hard reset

I wish I knew of more that you could do. These are the options I'd be looking at in the same situation. I turned that fancy rotation on for like a day, then was like wow, that's dumb looking, and turned it off. I was fortunate enough not to have trouble with it. Good luck!

I'm trying to undo everything I've done to my phone recently in order to figure out what's suddenly draining my battery. One thing I did recently was to change the animations in spare parts. Can someone please tell me what the default settings were for window animations and transition animations? Thanks!

The Eris runs on 1.5 with Sense overlay, not 2.0. I used Spare Parts after hearing all the great reviews and thought initially it was making my phone transition faster. Over time, my phone started behaving more and more unstable--foreclosings, returning to the HTC start screen while checking email, and real jerky lags between apps. I thought it was Swype, but decided to uninstall Spare Parts. My Eris is back to normal--no weird issues. The Dev. for Spare Parts has an ominous warning on the app explanation on the market: "I am not responsible for what it does or does not do." Perhaps it's made for Android 1.5 without Sense--but I'm staying clear from Spare Parts. I'll take slower transitions for solid functionality anyday.

Mine doesn't seem to be any faster going to landscape with this app but
Phone does seem snapper and I LOVE the "end button behavior"..sweeet

Can someone list there settings that make the screen snap faster during rotation? This is mine
"windows animation" set to fast
"transition animations" set to fast.

Interesting found something out while I was writing this.
Under settings/sound & display scroll down to animations.
I had that unchecked

then went into spare parts/transition animations was set to off, changed it to fast, then went back into settings/sound & display scroll down to animations and it was CHECKED...interesting, I didn't think the app would change stuff in the phone setting menu.

Was wondering what does Fancy input animations do??
I don't see anything

Also under the stock phone settings what does Animations do if its checked (which it has to be if running spare parts and transition animations switched to fast.

thanks

I just downloaded the latest update for Spare Parts... sorry to say, I had to uninstall.

Adds were added at the bottom- no mention of that on update page. Not a big deal, but they should at least be upfront about it.

The reason I got rid of it was that it started causing Sense to reload! It reloaded when exiting SP and the market, and was very sluggish.

Hopefully the dev will address these issues. Anyone one else experiencing this?
