Root Can't access recovery menu!

Ok, so I was gonna try a new rom after updating my PRL. I currently have CM7 and I heard people talking about MIUI so I wanted to give it a try. i backed up my everything and rebooted to recovery. It went to the normal revolutionary hboot screen. So I tried to manually select recovery and it looped me back to the revolutionary hboot screen again... WTF at this. Here is my info..

-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.05.02

I am trying to root my HTC EVO 4g 2.3.3.

Download rooting files
Install HTC Drivers
Put phone in debugging mode
Charge only
Run Revolutionary
Download and flash ClockWorldMod Recovery

When my phone boots back up it says S-OFF
I select Bootloader
on the next screen I cannot scroll down to recovery.

I have tried powering on the phone while holding down the Volume - button but I am still unable to select Recover.

Thank you for your help.

You don't have to select bootloader. at the white screen just use volume down to scroll to recovery and press the power button.

Could my problem be related to accidentally updating the phone.

After selecting Bootloader I was trying to use the volume keys to move the to Recovery. After a few seconds the phone changes to a screen that asks if you want to update:
Boot
Bootloader
Microp
Radio_VZ
Recovery
Splash1
System
TP
TP
Userdata
WiMax

Not realizing the screen had changed I hit yes.

Try flashing your recovery again. By installing that ruu your bootloader got updated. hopefully you can just install recovery again and you'll be fine.

If it still doesn't work them i'm not sure what can be done. You essentially took an ota by installing that ruu. Big no no for a rooted user. At least you still have s-off, which is the most important thing.

I tried flashing it again, it says sucessfull but it still does not allow me to select recovery.

What am I able to do now that it is S-OFF (enable wifi)

Is it possible to downgrade the bootloader? Someone else would have to speak to this for me. I'm not sure what else could be done. I thought I read odd someone on XDA who contacted a dev on the alpharevx team and they got something similar to this fixed. I'll check it out over my lunch break and report back.

Your phone is certainly in an abnormal state

Thanks for your help on this.
I was pretty excited thinking I would finally have a rooted EVO, until I messed it up.

I also just noticed where you're located at. I live in Florida but grew up in Hutchinson, KS.

well unfortunately there is no reversing the hboot back at the moment. but the good news is that you still have s-off. unfortunately there is no s-on tool yet so you will not be able to unroot it if need be. but for now you can flash roms and kernels like everybody else. as long as you have s-off and a custom recovery you are good to go:)

But it looks like the new hboot isn't letting into recovery

Thank you,
It is still doing the NanDroid Backup. Once that is finished what do I need to do?

Mike

NICE!!!!!!
now that you have recovery all you need to do is flash a rom or not flash a rom that is up to you. if you want to stay on stock then i would download from the market the superuser app. this will allow you to use apps that require root access. i would suggest that you flash mikg3.0 it is way better then stock. you can get it here:MikG v3.0 [12/17/2011]

I am still trying to figure out the lingo...
Does "flash mikg3.0" mean place above zip file on the root of my SD card and then use the recovery to boot from that image.

Do I also still need to preform these steps:
next we need to flash the superuser file (superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip)
10.select recovery in bootloader.
11.select install .zip from sdcard.
12.find the superuser file and flash it.

flash is just a term that means to install the zip file in recovery. you do need to move the file to the sd card.

yes and no to the su steps.. yes if you plan on staying stock. and no if you plan on flashing a rom like mikg.
