Who is tempted to get RAZR Maxx?

Unlike many others, I have no issue with Motorola and my DX was an excellent phone. I considered the RAZR when I was researching the GNex and Rezound. The RAZR's screen was terrible in my opinion which immediately took it off my list. I'm not usually sensitive to that but it was blatantly awful even to my aging eyes. My DX had a better screen.

But to each their own.

It's not just how much gas you're using, it also matters how big the gas tank is.

Doesn't do you any good if you can only get down the street when you really need to the other side of town.

I'm not here to argue, other than the bad battery life, I love the phone. I'm not fanboy of any mfg as I have had most of them, OG Droid, Eris, X, Incredible, Droid Pro, Charge, Thunderbolt and maybe a few others.

You can close this thread now. That analogy just ended the discussion.

Well done sir.

Samsung and HTC better come back with devices that have larger batteries while retaining the thinness. If they don't , Motorola will run away with the Android crown. I believe that battery life is a key feature in the minds of the average user.
What Motorola has done with the Maxx is frankly revolutionary. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of people giving them much credit.

It is an awesome feat, but remember it is claimed that they did that by making the battery non-removable again. If the other OEMs were to try to match the capacity of the Razr, and the claim that they are able to due to fixed battery holds true, I would hate to see the others go that route because I still want a removable battery, even with 3300 mAh. On a busy day away from the charger I can go through that and then some. It happens all too often when I'm out all day from sun up to midnight and just can't charge during that time and i'm using the phone a lot for data activities, gps, and mobile hotspot.

I think last year was race for thin and light weighted device and i bet this year they should focus more on battery life especially they gonna launch quadcore smartphones.

I think its pretty cool they squezzed a 3300mah battery into a phone that is still not too thick . But after having a Photon and using Blur I'm not a fan , and the phones are so locked down . For most people that won't be an issue but it's a big reason I like the Nexus so much .

I really don't ever monitor my battery any more on the stock 1850 battery I have trouble making it through the day . My usage isn't heavy but I do use my phone and I never turn lte off unless connected to wifi which isn't very often . I easily get 12-18 hrs and 2.5-4hrs of screen on time . Great no but it gets the job done

I know two people who bailed on the Nexus because of the battery. I got the extended battery and it is somewhat better but not extraordinary. If I'm at work then the phone lasts 12 plus hours because I don't use it much. If I'm out and about that sucker is on orange in a few hours which is a pain. I'm kind of in the middle right now, waiting on someone to wow me with a great Android phone with great battery life.

Nope. After my experience with the Bionic I am done with Moto. What really bugs me is how Moto has treated early adopters to their phones lately. First they release the Bionic, then they release the RAZR just a couple months later, and then only a couple months after that they release the MAXX with a much better battery that the original RAZR owners can't do anything about since the battery is sealed. The Bionic should have just never been released and the MAXX version of the RAZR should have been the one released from the beginning.

Personally, I've not really had any major issues with the battery, for two and a half reasons: One, I'm not in an LTE area, and I've been on WiFi a bit when able. (I live on a fringe area and my home WiFi is faster + better battery life). And Two, I'm never THAT far away from a charger. To be honest, I don't know too many people who are so far out of reach of a charger for 10+ hours.

But my own personal reasons for not switching to either the RAZR or MAXX, are a few in number. First and foremost: I don't like how it fits in my hand. Even though the Nexus is slightly thicker, it has more contour around the sides to the back, so when it fits in my hand, it doesn't feel (ugh..horrible pun again..) edgy or sharp-ish to hold. Even though I don't use my phone for calls too often without using my BT, it's in my hand the rest of the time when I use it. For me, that would get uncomfortable quickly. My hands are different than your hands tho, so..

Also, the non-removable battery. I don't care if the Maxx CAN go twice as long. I don't need it to, but more importantly, what happens if/when the battery goes bad, or gets worn out? Sure, many people will tough it til their upgrade and get out into more latest-and-greatest, but what about other people who do want to hold on longer? Or that give the phone to a friend, or want to sell it after their done? The second-hand market is going to be very leery of a phone that they can't easily change the battery on.

Never was a fan of Moto's software and whatnot. It isn't to say that I don't think they make good phones, because I think for the most part, they've been solid. We also have a Droid 3 (gf carries that). But I don't know, it's one of those ones that I can't put my finger on, but it just doesn't work for me. And I'm not a rooting person, so for me, that eliminates that. I like my phones stock, and with that, the GNex has been everything I could ask for (miss my Tbolt kickstand tho..).

Ya man let me know how you like it . My lady fell in love with the Razr when I took her into a Verizon and she's about ready to end her contract with Sprint she also has a huge problem with letting her EVO battery die . I don't think it would be a problem with the Maxx plus she's insanely rough on her phones which is why when she told me she really loved my phone and she wanted it I told her " if you owned this phone you'd break it in a week"

Will do brother...

Trust me don't let your lady grab a Nexus. Mine had the Razr for 2 months...She had zero problems, screen was tough as nails, she had that thing in her bag with her chick stuff and not one blemish..zippo! Only reason she jumped to the Nexus was the removable battery thing and the fact that the Nexus was a little bit easier to control one handed for her...But honestly if she had her choice between the Nexus and Maxx right now, I think she'd go with the Maxx...

Keep ya posted after the launch...

How does the Razr camera compare to say the Rezound ? I know that's another thing she loves taking pictures with her phone I'd say that is her number one use of her EVO now

Sub par screen+gingerbread=no thanks

I actually thought the screen on the Razr was pretty good to be honest. And prob in the next 60 days the Maxx will get ICS anyway...However the interface on the Razr is very slick, the updated software makes the camera very good with a fairly fast shutter, and if the thing can go 15 or so hours without a charge...damm, I'd say that's a pretty good device. Throw in the build quality and Gorilla Glass and all that and you have a beast of a phone...

No its not a Nexus, but I'll take the pros it offers if they are indeed true.

All in all it'll do for now if those battery life suggestions are true....Mobile World Congress should bring us some awesome stuff to look forward to later in 2012, but for now this beast may do the job.

If i got poor battery life on my SGN I would consider another phone. (Yesterday 16h on 1750mah with what i consider light to normal use for me.)

It gets me through a full day at work from 7am until bed at 10/11pm.

I just sold my atrix ($325) w/ otter/car dock and 16gb sd card and would not buy another motorola again anytime soon!

Goodbye Moto!

Based on my bionic experience, I don't see ics coming to the razr within the next millennium.

The screen isn't bad, but the res was already old tech when it came out.

Actually Nexus has extended battery about the same size as stock though it's not gigantic like Maxx.

3300mAh is nice battery capacity but I don't like fixed battery design. What would we do when it goes bad? Also Maxx still doesn't have HD screen despite having enough juice to power it. I fear that Moto will bring out Razr Maxx HD soon after that like what they have been doing since Bionic, not to mention host of new beast phones to be unveiled at MWC.

I'm with you man. I just don't see how these people get so much out of there phones. I am really thinking about the Maxx. I think where I differ than most is I actually need to talk on my phone quite a bit for work (at least an hour a day) so maybe that's it.

There is no way I could get a full day's usage on the Nexus.

Well, actually if voice talk is your primary thing with phone, you can put Nexus in 3G mode and it will easily last full day.

I don't get much battery life out of my nexus with what I consider light to medium use. It is probably because I work in a hospital that has poor signal in different areas and the phone has to constantly search for signal. Just yesterday, I missed an important call because I didn't realize my phone was dead and I didn't put the backup battery in yet. As I said before, I would hate to switch data off or put in airplane mode or some of the other suggestions being made to me.
I am going to check it out on Thursday and if I like how it feels, I will try it out. Wonder when Verge and Engadget will review it. Does anyone know how much it costs full price?

Thing is its not a primary concern just one of the many little ones. I would never want to turn off 4g as its one of the main reasons for an upgrade IMO.

I really just think I have a different view of what is light use etc.

Pretty easy fix if the battery goes bad! Just call VZW , talk to tech support...And they'll just ship a new phone out.
