Essentially a beta tester for a new software update. After the manufacturer conducts their own internal testing of a new software update, they push it out to people who have signed up, and been approved, to be soak testers. Then they collect data / feedback from the users before the final release of the update to the public.

Basically anyone can be a soak tester provided you have the device they are testing on the proper cell carrier. However, it does require that you have a stock (non-rooted) phone and in some cases may require that you perform a factory reset on your device.

Go to motorola forums were u sign up and you hv to read under photon forums

"Signing up will do no harm.

But currently Motorola is not looking for software testers for the Photon. I to have seen the blog sites that are saying there will be an update soon because Moto is looking for people to help.

The reason this all came about was because when ever there is activity on a post in the new forum, that post will move to the top of the list. If you look at the creation date of the post from Mark looking for software testers it was back when we had our first soak test."

According to their mod, so.

When this issue popped up weeks ago I posted over there asking if its true and I got the same response that due to the new forum setup the two threads that ask for recruits for the soak test keeps popping up every once in a while.
Recently another member also inquired and got the same response.

The only soak test I know of is the one for the Razr. But don't remember off hand if is happening now. Now being that I was invited for the last Photon tests, I haven't received any for this one if it is indeed happening.

Can you provide the post or the email stating that the there is one?

I'm also a tester and I haven't gotten any emails about a soak. I went and registered for the new forums and looked at the survey again. All my answers are still there. I hit done again.

I also looked for information concerning a soak. I didn't find anything. I think there will be no more Motorola updates to this phone, imho. I think the MoPho is already finished. LTE is on the horizon and the MoPho didn't sell very well.

I also hope that Motorola will update the MoPho (and do believe they will). I came from the Moment and really enjoy Photon, i dont think that I will ever buy another Samsung phone (maybe the Galaxy Nexus will change my mind) but I am not overly immpressed with it. I think that ICS running on the MoPho would be better than the GNex as the batt life on the MoPho has been good aswell as everything else

The weak GPU in the Galaxy Nexus, the lackluster quality of the camera, and all the issues that are plaguing it are making me avoid it like the plague.

Google had a swing and a miss on this one.

4288055[/URL]]well i went in and updated things....but have yet to get an email from them...

so we will see

maybe ICS????

The forum manager @ MOTOROLA FORUMS has stated as much that this is an update (bug fix,etc..) & not an upgrade (2.2>2.3>4.0,etc...).

Still a mystery as to the nature of the update. With that said,I'm speculating that the update should be out relatively soon,as an update shouldn't take as long to go through a SOAK TEST as an entire O/S upgrade

2.3.4 (198_6 official and 198_7 leak) has some Wireless N issues that seems to be tied to certain routers (Belkin N being one). It fails to maintain a connection in some cases. I know they were working on 2.3.5 for some time and this MAY be a 2.3.4 to 2.3.5 test. I sure hope so or at least fixed wifi drivers for 2.3.4. We will see.
