Alternate route in Google Maps

Looking through the searches I can't seem to find anyone who has asked this question before and maybe this is being addressed with the 2.1 update.

When I'm in the Google Maps application and I've entered my start and end point the route it give me is on a toll road or a highway I know to be very slow because of traffic. I know that when I'm using my computer for directions I can drag the line to add a via point / alternate route.

Is there a way to do this in the current Google Maps on the HTC Droid Eris?

Thanks!

I don't think that there is. However, when you're on the go, there is the option to recalc the route from your current location. So for me, I live southeast of Denver and want to head to the mountains and Maps tells me to take E-470, which is a toll road. But I take a road instead and when I get to the highway I-25, I can hit the recalc route and it'll give me a better route, non-toll etc. Of course, I don't need a map to go to the mountains, they're quite big and I can see them just fine.

But that probably isn't what you're seeking. But I don't know of a way to exclude specific roads based on knowledge of issues with that possible route.

I'm from Colorado as well and I was having the issue with E-470 as well. The problem is I don't necessarily need directions; I need to know the distance so I can easily go back and calculate mileage for the day if I forgot to record the information off of my odometer.

My example was from I-225 and Mississippi in Aurora to Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City. It sticks me on the toll road and therefore I'm unable to obtain the correct mileage w/o going on my computer.

Oh well, hopefully they fix this in an update.

Uh...E-470. Such an overpriced toll for such a minor improvement in time saved.

Try using Tracks off the Market. Tracks is supposed to be used as a running and workout aid but it tracks how far you've gone and you can do it by segment or let it run all day. Just a thought.
