why aren't we in tapatalk yet?

for those of us not wanting to use it or not using it, is there a way to turn off that dreadful alert that pops up every, single time we visit this site that say

"this site is Tapatalk native blah blah blah"

man, I am about tired of clicking past that darn alert

Rob said he thought their TOS require we leave it in.

We'll see what we can do, though. I hate it too.

i get no such ads.. hmm, is it cause i bought it for the 2 bucks? worth it by the way

1. we are not talking about an "ad". When you visit this site on your Droid, a native phone Alert pops up with some message about "This site is Tapatalk Native blah blah blah" and you can accept - which takes you off site or cancel, which leaves you on site. SO, it is annoying and takes people away if they accept.

2. price is not so much of an issue, I tried the beta and I just do not see it being that great personally. The beta has a ton of ads all over the GUI and a bunch of stuff that actually made it more annoying that useful, like other sites and recent stuff for sites of no value or interest to me.

3. as an evolving product, it is not al that stable yet when you do the research

point is, I just want to come here on my phone and NOT get an alert 90% of the time that I have to click past and if I don't click "cancel" I get taken to their download. :( Rather deceptive in my book and takes away visitors that then have to click back, do it all again, and remember to click "cancel". To them, driving traffic to them first and foremost is clearly more important than your forum.

yes, it is.

first, it takes people off the site. are you clear on that? If they do not hit "cancel" it takes them off your site. As a developer, you NEVER want that to happen or allow someone else to have that kind of control over your traffic. Period.

Second, it is obtrusive and unneeded step to get past it. Do not care if it is just 1 click, it should not happen.

I've notified Phases of this. I'll let him address the issue your having.

EDIT: He's aware and I now see that he has already replied.

cool...

BTW, I think the bigger picture is not so much "me" and the issue "I" am having... I think the bigger picture is that a 3rd party attempts to make a preemptive decision about your traffic and what a user can see first, and must react to, while trying to see your site and before they can see your site from their phone. That just should not be an acceptable.

as for "me".. I personally find it amazingly annoying and a dirty tactic

that is good to know..

but one of the minor dislikes of the app itself if we talk just about the app.

So, as for the app itself:

Ads - well, we addressed that one

The "Popular forums" stuff at the top.. waste of time and space to me. I go to forums I want to see, I dont have idle time to go finding forums to join just for fun.

"Browse" - great, even more forums I don't want to visit

"Favorites" - obviously, useful. This is where I would put the forums I do visit IF they even adopt this Tapatalk stuff. Which is like 2 of the 15 I visit.

"Just In" - awesome, more stuff I do not care about at forums I do not visit

"Follow us on Twitter" - oh great, more self pimping. I dont care what they are up to, or what any app developer is up to. I get an app I like, I dont want to follow their life story and certainly don't want that so front and center

Tapatalk footer and logo.. great, even more effort by these guys - as if you dont know - who they are and how to find them.

It's just to much.

I also do not get any ads. In fact I have no problems with its design.

Lock-N-Load
I do not get what you are trying to accomplish.
if a applications' design is not to your liking, then notify the developer, and if they make changes not to your liking or no changes at all, then uninstall and move on. Simple as that.

the setup itself, looks really similar to the way the Android marketplace is set up with the popular forums on top, a search.

hey guys... were just bantering here

I simply posted up my grievance about just the alert.. and, as conversations naturally do, they twist and turn and take tangents. just like this did. oh well. I had no desire or intent to go into it this far, but I made some claims and I like to backup my claims..

frankly, I don't really care either way, just wanting the make this forum experience better and I think that alert detracts so I posted up. And, the rest is just natural conversational drift.

I just bought it this afternoon, and TBH, while it is definitely a WIP, it is pretty nice as it is.

I have used forum reader apps in the pat on my PC,and I always reverted to the browser b/c of the ease of being able to go from one site to another to another using only tabs. This app could definitely use some help, there is a lot that needs fixing, and a lot more that needs redesigning, but I am still willing to support the author b/c he made it relatively easy for boards to join with his app.

Now, If it were me, I'd have the app a bit more native to the boards actual structure - but that can be a daunting task, even if he stick with supporting only one particular BBS Software suite. there is simply so much customization that goes on that it is nearly impossible to to have all the features that every board has and make it available in your app. However, the features that are across the board should be included - reply w/ quote, multi-quote (a must for me as I only access boards (usually) at the same time each night, so rather than padding my postwhore count with even more posts by individually replying, I like to use the multi-quote function as it was meant to be used), and PMs / Walls. But it is still a great start, much better than trying to use the mobile skin here....

wow, looks like I am not the only one annoyed by those pop up alerts.. several user make note of how annoying it is. as well, on a side note, 1 mentions their invasive marketing push and constant pimping of themselves in the app and when accessing the forum.. classic

but this is the best part, direct from the creator... EVERY forum owner should make this change and block that alert box

"The popup only shows once and the admin can completely remove it by modifying a one liner script at the header file. We are not sure why it keeps displaying on some devices - we'll take a look and see what we can do."

and just for the record.... I really like the "concept" of this and want to use it, 1 local place to browse all my forums is great. But as I stated above, they are to pushy with marketing, try to take traffic with the alert, and the app itself is bloated with features that the average forum user wouldn't use as forum users mostly go direct to find forums they want - so namely, all the ways you can get access - or that are right in your face - to other forums and their content you wouldnt/didnt/never would accessed and dont care about.

I am not looking for a social networking version of a forum reader trying to sell me on other forums and what's happening on those other forums I don't care about, I am looking for a tool I can select ONLY what forums I want and add them... and not be inundated with ways to look at forums I do not care about.
