Suggest the antivirus for 2010

Recently i am using McAfee and it got expired, I have AVG virus protection always on and windows XP firewall enabled. Why do I still get infected with some Trojan horses? I check for updates every day so I am sure I am up to date.Can anyone tell me the best antivirus of 2010.. There are so many on net so it made me confused and drag me here to ask in the forum..

My current setup is AVG Antivirus 9 (paid version) and I do full, deep scans with Malwarebytes every day or two. Malwarebytes sounds kinda ghetto I know, but look it up on CNET, where it's one of the top rated mal-ware scanners. I find CNET to be a good place to look in general for software reviews.

I'm no computer expert, but I hope that helps.

Just MS Security Essentials...very fast and lightweight. On my other PC...there is nothing on it and I haven't had a virus since I've started using a Windows box. I do manual scans sometimes...but nothing running in the background. It all has to do with how your browse really.

The best FREE combination is Avira Free and ZoneAlarm (or Comdodo). These are generally known as the best options, in terms of number of virus definitions, and speed.

AVG is terrible, it always scores towards the bottom in virus scanning tests (slow and low percentage of viruses recognised)

Stop looking at pron = no virus.

For real though, your browsing habits will be far more efficient in virus prevention than an anti virus. Porn sites, celeb sites, warez sites, etc will all be virus, trojan, malware havens.

I have used AVG and Spybot S&D for years, along with good browsing habits. No problems reported here. I have the auto update and scan run every night while I am sleeping, so speed isnt an issue.

I have tried a number of others, all seem the same to me.

I use Malwarebytes and ClamWin. Avast is suppose to be pretty good, I just installed it on a customers computers because with Malwarebytes and ClamWin he still got infected. No matter how many anti-malware programs you have, it's mostly all down to the user's surfing habbits.

Microsoft security essentials is actually one of the best rated anti-virus utilities on the web. It is constantly updated and as virus's come in, the hot-patches get downloaded. Combine this with windows firewall and windows defender and your pretty secure. The plus of this as they are completely transparent and integrated into windows updates. There is no annoying pop-ups to update at startup, and it uses almost no ram. I highly recommend it.

I used to always run AVG when I ran windows. I never had any problems getting viruses while I ran it. I also used to run ad-aware for spyware.
Now I just run Linux Mint and dont worry about any of that virus and spyware mess

I also agree with Microsoft Security Essentials. It is highly rated and uses very little resources. I used Avira prior to that (another highly rated AV), but I had the free version so you get a pop up when it updates.

Comodo makes the best free firewall that I'm aware of, but these arent really necessary. Once again, watch your browsing habits. If you get a virus while doing something in particular, DONT DO IT AGAIN!

It usually takes me a few months before I get around to installing an AV after a format and I still never get viruses.

Oh yeah, I also agree with Malwarebytes. I've been removing spyware and viruses for a decade and it has done the best job. In the past multiple programs were required to get a PC as clean as this one can do.

Microsoft Security Essentials, Comodo Firewall, NO porn sites you randomly find on google, and a biweekly scan with Malwarebytes. You'll be good.

I got tired and bored of the whole windows virus hassle, and moved to ubuntu when I witnessed the farce that was vista.
I've not had any anti-virus software since then and have never had any hassles.
I still enjoy the programs i wrote during my 'L' plate times on windows thanks to WINE.

My recommendation is Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG Pro. In my opinion an antivirus just slows down your computer, if you know what your doing you shouldn't have to use one at all.

I just have AVG free and SpyBot S&D. Never had a problem with viruses. One rule of thumb is never to open unknown files from the outside, such as email attachments, exe files that was prompted to be opened by a website, etc.

I'm a big fan of AVG... but I also have Malware Bytes on my compy. Never had a problem. But, if youare doing a lot of "high risk" activities, you might want to do what my cousin does. He has one good computer for everyday stuff, and another for downloading software, limewire, and whatever else I don't want to know about. When it gets trashed, he restores it to the original settings with the backup disc he has. Just food for thought...
