High Quality Car Charger?

I agree with the above. I wouldn't recommend it if you've never held a soldering iron. I have however done quite a bit myself through the years and i'm fine with it.

Not to mention that frying your phone is probably not that easy. The phone is either going to recognize it and charge or it's not. Phones are pretty smart these days.

Ok kids, here's a interesting twist :)

Just received mine tonight. I was all ready to crack it open, and I thought let me just check it before I do...

It charges as A/C

What do you know? I guess they changed it?

I'll upload a screenie later...

I can't imagine a custom kernal/rom affecting A/C vs USB

I'm running GUMMY with IMO's 1.8

I didn't try both plugs "not" that should matter either...

Thanks for the info. I just ordered one. Hopefully it will be an update to the one I have been using.

boohoo those are gone for that price :(

I just grabbed mine for $7.79 with Amazon Prime 2 day shipping. What price were you looking for?

I've used several cheap ones with older Android phones, and I noticed that many car chargers generate an annoying noise when playing audio

This is probably late but I think the answer to this problem is called a ground loop isolator . They run about $15.00 online. Was the only way I could charge and play music at the same time.

that looks like the one I got from agentfrugel

Amazon.com: Griffin Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro: MP3 Players & Accessories

to repeat my disclaimer, that link is the one I ordered. I'm not responsible for what you get. There are obviously different "versions" or different "stock" of this charger out there.

I use this guy and it works like a champ! (please disregard the iDumb 4G description)
I actually have 4 of these so I can keep one in each car and they've held up great over the years. This version has dual 1amp output but there is also a 2.1amp / 1 amp available if you have a tablet or just want to rapid charge.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices+

Edit: upon further inspection, it charges as USB despite the 1A rating. :(

Got this last week with Amazon 2 day shipping but I just now got back into the office to be able to open it. The top USB port definitely charges as AC and the bottom USB port definitely charges as USB....overall I consider it a WIN. Thanks!

That's really weird, good to know though! Probably has something to do with how the split power between the ports...

I had another 2 port charger, I wonder if it does the same thing :/ 7 bucks isn't a lot but it would be annoying to waste anyway...

I got mine. It puts out significant 'white noise' or hiss over any FM station. It doesn't have to have anything plugged into it, as soon as it is put into the charging plug, the noise kicks in.

It doesn't interfere with bluetooth, just FM. That sucks, maybe there is a fix. For as little as it costs, I'll rip it apart if anyone has an idea how to cut down on the interference .

I just rolled the dice and ordered the Griffin charger from Agent Frugal; I realize it might or might not charge as AC out of the box as there are several versions floating around out there but I figured it was worth a shot for $7 and change.

If this works out of the box, great.
If not, then I can tear it apart and try to solder the connections on this AND the two Scosche dual 1A chargers I recently bought (that only show as USB)

rolled the dice and crapped out; the griffin powerjolt is showing as USB on both ports.
Any suggestions on how to open it up without breaking it?

I'm now determined to get that and the 2 scosche chargers I have to work.

I agree, it seems some output at 1A and some don't, might just be that certain batches of them have the connections closed (soldered)
Figured for $7 it was worth the gamble.
I'd have to say go with the carrier branded charger. They usually work out the best and Verizon's carries at least a 1yr. warranty.

I have both an ATT and VZ charger and both work great for me unlike generic chargers that go bad or break.
carrier branded chargers are always good but unfortunately don't meet my needs.
I really despise the coiled cord and need dual usb ports. (I use multiple cell phones every day)

I just want a dual-USB car charger that can simultaneously charge two Android phones at AC speeds (whatever amperage that is - 850 mA to 1A?) and doesn't have to be modded to do it. Does such a thing exist? I find it ******ed that Apple has screwed up this whole market making it almost impossible to find a charger that just follows standard USB specs.

Thanks!
