Any updates (from reliable sources) on ICS?

I heard it would come in february.

Here is a conversation with someone from acer. I didn't have that conversation.

Manish Tiwari (Responding) Manish Tiwari: Hi, my name is Manish Tiwari. How may I help you?
OrionNine: I am inquiring about the Android ICS update for the Iconia a500
Manish Tiwari: I will be glad to assist you in this regards.
Manish Tiwari: Before we proceed, let me validate the warranty of the tablet PC.
OrionNine: ok
Manish Tiwari: As per the records, I can see that the tablet is covered under standard limited warranty.
Manish Tiwari: If I understand you would like to know when android 4.0 updates will be available, am I correct?
OrionNine: yes
Manish Tiwari: Alright.
Manish Tiwari: OrionNine, we do not have exact date when android 4.0 updates will be available. However, it may get release in the end of Feb as test is going on it.
Manish Tiwari: OrionNine, you will receive a pop message when will be available.
OrionNine: ok thank you

Hi,

I can't see why the release would be as late as April because android 5 would be old by then. Let alone android 4.

Personally can't see why we can't just download android from Google, DD it to a USB and install it ourselves like with Linux.

Meh, all the waiting...

Ics is great on my phone, just feel my tablet is out of date until it catches up the release cycle.

If youve not filled your Acer product survey yet then don't forget to complain about this!

tawan, would you rather have a fully-functioning, stable tablet running ICS (or HC until ICS is stable) or a crippled, unstable device running an untested OS?

I thought so. Be patient. Acer is ensuring the OS will work with the HW and is making sure everything is functional so we can all have the best "out of the box" experience with the new software. This impatience is part of the reason everyone complains about buggy software. "Oh, so-and-so has it already? WHERE'S MINE?! I want it NOW!" but it still must be PERFECT. Chill, we'll get to taste the ICS goodness in our time. Just think of all the people buying unsupported Chinese tablets in the US that are still running GB or (gasp) FROYO!

I agree, I prefer a well tested and stable ics. They get complains for waiting so long, but they would also get complains if it is an unstable os. Now we can use our iconias without lag and to many force closes or freezes, and I still want this experience with ics.

Following the style of my actual point and taking the Linux distribution model as an example. I could download Android, try it on a USB, install it, try it, reinstall an old version if needed, have updates, .... Be free.

That's all I'm saying. You don't want that, fine but don't stop those who do :)

Besides, it takes a lot of time for Acer to add in all the crapware and such that vendors typically bundle into a new OS version release. :)

Acer is also known for using the closest to stock OS of all the Tablet manufacturers.
That it takes some time to adapt it to the hardware is all acceptable to me.

BTW, what was the comment above that Android 5 would be old by April.......?
Android 4 is only a few months old by then........

Here's the scuttlebut on Android 5:

Android5 :D

(Actually, all I found Googling it were articles discussing its possible name being Jelly bean and the challenges Google faces in its design. They dated from last Spring. I didn't find anything at all to suggest that it has even started being developed yet. )
