Root Rooted 2.2.2!

33 minutes into the new year and I'm already facing good luck. :D
I was searching for other root options and found something on a different forum for the Optimus S. Figured it was rather similar and decided to try it and it worked. o_O I'll test it out more. But all I did was change the recovery. I'll try to upload/post it in the morning, but until then I'll continue to test it.
Hope it really works.

I didn't have any root apps except for Root Explorer and that works in RW now. Also the root tool installs a recovery automatically, its the updated GNM one. It's nice. Typing "su" in ADB works, prompting the superuser app approval like it normally would followed by the # sign. Typing "reboot recovery" works just like it would. This is great. :) So I have evidence it is really rooted.

Done wrong, this could actually damage your device, as with all roots and mods, you are warned and I am not accountable for what happens.
Also, it is sfhub of AndroidCentral who should get credit for this, this is from his post.
Instead of going through the time to upload my own zip I'll just post the original link here. Optimus S Auto Root, though, there are a few things to do before starting:

1) Download the ZVH automated rooting package
UNZIP to top-level directory of your C: drive

2) CHANGE THE RECOVERY, Since this is for the Optimus S, the recovery would be different. I used the GNM Recovery. Rename the img file to "xionia_cwma_12518.6.img" then Go to 'C:\zvhauto\copy2sd\000root' and paste it there, it should ask you to replace the one that is already there, do it.

3) Pre-requisites Checklist
SD card is INSERTED
USB Debugging is ENABLED - [Menu->Settings->Applications->Development->USB debugging]
USB Storage Mode is OFF - [Drag down the notification bar to check]
LG USB/Android drivers are INSTALLED
Phone is connected to USB port and recognized
Phone is turned ON
Phone screen is UNLOCKED - [Menu->Settings->Applications->Development->STAY AWAKE]

4) Run the ZVH automated rooting package
From PC command prompt, run "runfirst" and select Option A (will install persistent root and Xionia CWMA recovery):
(if you have an aversion to typing, you can use file explorer to navigate to C:\zvhauto and double-click on RUNFIRST.bat)

Note #1 - You may see a message in your notification bar saying "SD card safe to remove", this is expected, please IGNORE
Note #2 - If you get stuck waiting for the phone to connect, REBOOT your phone AND PC and try again.

Code:
c:
cd \zvhauto
runfirst

(don't worry if there is an error with Busybox, the directories are different, and it's not really necessary)

5) You should be rooted. Reboot. Try typing in cmd:
Code:
adb shell
su

Please let me know if it works or not. I might try to upload my own edit of this specifically for the OM, but I guess this can do for now. Thanks, Hope it works.

I'm kinda new on this, but it gives me an error, it says: error: daemon is not running. do you have any ideas of what could it be?

Oh sorry, I should have elaborated more. Daemon refers to ADB. It could be that you don't have adb on your computer, the phone drivers are missing, or you might have a previous adb session running. I'm not really sure what it is but I am sure it is an easy fix. Hope you can get it. :)

Wow Thanks!!!! Just researching to see if this was possible. Have owned this phone since March and have been thinking of rooting it since day 1. Just decided today that it needed to happen and have been on the whole "It can be done......It can't be done" roller coaster for the last several hours. I have to get up to speed on all of this, but looking forward to it. Appreciate everyone's hard work!

So now that I've upgraded to 2.2.2 I'm guessing all of the Youtube videos on "How to Root Your Optimus M Easily" don't apply?
I've read this thread and the All In One Recovery thread at least 4 times and don't understand most of what's being talked about. ROMs , Nands, ADB and binaries, oh my!
The furthest I've gotten was to download and unzip the ZVH package on my C: drive.
Sigh, I don't want to eff up my phone but I also can't stand all of this MetroPCS bloatware running down my battery twice a day every day...

mikekelso421 made a more simple way of doing this. And the steps are more clear. I hope this helps. :D
