Help Asus Told Me To RMA For GPS Fix ....WTH?

After 4 emails, Asus told me to do an RMA for my prime because of GPS issue !

My argument with Asus was the fact that when I purchased my Prime, on Dec. 24th, from Bestbuy, GPS was listed as a feature ! Not "limited GPS" ! Not "So-So GPS". To my understanding, when a product list GPS as a spec, it is a fully functioning GPS !

Within my 14 day return period, with BB, issues were raised at this forum and others about the GPS issue and being the owner of 2 other Asus products, I believed Asus would do the right thing and fix this issue !

Well as we all know they didn't fix the issue, in fact they've tried to make it a "Non-issue" by saying things like, "Well , this device was never intended to be a fully functioning GPS device".............I must have missed that in the fine print when I purchased mine and then to try and make it an even bigger "Non-issue" , when they remove any mention of GPS from the spec sheet !

I'm not sure how many of you feel as a consumer, when things like this happen but, I for one do not consider it to be a very wise move on Asus part and I feel a taken advantage of as a consumer, when certain features are removed, after purchasing, all because it was not tested properly !

All I asked Asus for was for one of the following: A rebate check, A discount off accessories or a full refund and what do I get .....RMA it !

Have I missed something and they actually have a fix for GPS or is this just more bait and switch tactics !

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT RMA YOUR PRIME, I REPEAT DO NOT RMA YOUR PRIME.

After just shy of a month, I should be receiving my tablet back from Asus tomorrow. I RMA'd for a stuck pixel and the GPS. After a month of constant lies, misinformation, and daily CSR calls, I will never send for repairs again.

After a month, and promises I would be sent MINE back, I look today and see that yesterday they desided, ahh screw it, lets not fix it, and now I'm being sent a brand new one.

Sweet! I'm glad! but WTF did it take a month to figure that out?

Although, my conspiracy theory is that the first production run of these devices (SN starting with BOKACAS) were flawed. My new SN starts with C10, which appears to be the second run of devices. If this is true, it makes sense that everyone that RMA'd is getting new tablets, they are scooping up these faulty ones, and giving new, more fixed ones.

Heres a link to the heartache and sorrow people, including me, have felt after the RMA process

Okay guys, four of you are involved in two different threads here in the Transformer Prime forum.

I hope things have cooled-off a bit while this thread has been closed...

Several posts and been deleted for inappropriate, disrepectful comments and name-calling.

We will have no more of that, okay? Further issues and reports will result in infractions of a more formal nature.

Please review this thread for a little refresher course:

http://androidforums.com/introductions/704-site-rules-guidelines.html

So, let's all attack the issues and not each other, okay?

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

is that a typo for your serial number? BOKACAS? i only ask because mine is BCOKAS and i am wondering should i get in contact with asus. i've really had no issue with the tablet, but at the same time its my first tablet so i don't have a fair bench mark. it works fine in the house and at the office. have branched out past that as far as using it on other networks.

My sn starts with BCOKAS. Sorry for any previous typos !

I haven't really had any issues with my Prime, other than lackluster GPS, but I really hate being misled and false advertising and really don't want to RMA mine but, if they are already building better units, with better GPS and wifi capability's, why isn't Asus doing the right thing and taking it upon themselves to replace defective units on their own ! They should know which units are subpar by the SN's alone !

I will have my replacement today by 3pm. I plan on doing various tests to compare wifi strength etc.... Next to my frinds prime who has a sn bkoas
. My replacement is from the sn C10 batch. If we see any positive differences he will rma his and regardless ill post back here my findings as well if you can hold off a little longer.

I just got a call from a coworker that my tablet is sitting at my desk right now. I will update asap to help ya out with the new discoveries.

The replacement tablet is flawless. The wi-fi reception seems to be about 1 bar greater in strength then my friends from the original batch. No yellow screen, No barring from ICS or lock-ups so far. Multiple people who have all gone through the same hell I did in other forums all had replacements overnighted to them yesterday. It seems as if ASUS was waiting for the new corrected batch to come out to replace the bad batch with out just saying it was a bad batch. I have yet to test the GPS but will on lunch. If you RMA, and I am emphasizing that you are playing Russian roulette with customer service and turn around times, the problems will most likely be solved. The thing that would be lost is the time you did not have with it.

There are two flaws to the theory:

1. I have two BC units on hand. One has excellent GPS for a Prime (I've locked onto as many as 12/14 satellites in less than a minute outside, and I've seen as many as 7 satellites lock on indoors) and good wifi, a good screen, etc.. One has pretty much non-functional GPS, poorer wifi, a GREAT screen, etc. In other words, two BC units, one clearly defective in some areas but superior in others.

2. The serial number is essentially a date stamp. So, C1 units aren't a "different batch," precisely, but rather were just manufactured later (in Jan 2012 vs. Dec 2011). And, I've seen the same complaints about C1 units as about BC units.

So, while perhaps ASUS has changed components, tightened up manufacturing, etc., as time has gone on, I don't really see much of a general improvement.

I was simply assuming based off the irony of how so many people got replacements all at once. I am not doubting your theories by any means, I just find it ironic that everyone that has been waiting for an RMA'd unit for some time magically got a replacement overnighted yesterday. I think we need Scooby-Doo to solve this mystery.;)

That could be just as easily ascribed to a corporate decision to replace units that have been RMAed. Decision gets made and communicated, and BAM! New units start going out.

So using your theory, Asus wil continue to manufacture Primes, perhaps with different components and hope than 10 of those, say out of 20, work as they were intended ? Sounds like a craps-shoot to me !

I have not looked into the feedback on these new C10 devices, but isnt this a good thing?

If they scoop up the broken units, and issue non-broken units ... where do i sign up? lol

Whats the catch? I might be willing to wait a month, if it means i have the newest, non-broken'est hardware.

Or are they not fully functional?

If thats the case, why doesn't Asus do the right thing and issue new units to all the people who have the the "defective" units without the customer, who paid money in good faith, having to go through the imfamous RMA nightmare !

Or are they just hoping some of the customers will be happy enough with their flawed devices and will consider it a done deal !

And I consider anyone's Prime, that was purchased while GPS was listed as a feature, to be a flawed Prime !

If you purchased your prime, when GPS was no longer listed in the specs, you don't really have a dog in this fight, concerning GPS issues !

Like i said in my review thread ... ignorance is bliss!

there has to be tons, probably the majority percentage of customers! That do not realize wifi is weak, and they probably had no idea the thing even had gps, let alone it didnt work.

a very small sample of people actually show up on forums, or think to look things up. Majority buy it, if it works they keep it. If they dont like it they return it. simple minded, lol
