CheckROM v6 - A Dummies Guide to installation

To flash CheckROM v6 for Gingerbread ROM's, (Android 2.3.X)...

Providing your phone is already rooted using the CF-Root method and have the CWM app, that is automatically installed using this method, in your App Drawer. For CF-Root see here:-

1. Download the CheckROM RevoHD v6 .zip file from here:-

[ROM][XWLA4][2.3.6] CheckROM RevoHD? V6 | CheckROM

and install the unopened .zip file in the root, (not in a file), of your internal SD card, (or external SD card if you prefer).

NB. If you choose to download the CheckROM RevoHD v6.zip file to your phone, using the phone's browser, your file will appear in, "sdcard/downloads" and you should make a note of this location when you come to flash the installation of this .zip file.

2. Ensure that you have made a nandroid and Titanium backup (although you may only be using the Titanium restore. The nandroid is your get-out-of-jail card).

3. Make sure that you have read the FAQ's in this post:-

Hopefully this thread will answer a lot of questions on how to flash CheckROM to your phone.

Excellent work again ironass.

Also, it's probably worth mentioning that by far the easiest way to put items you want to flash onto your sdcard is to download directly through the browser on your phone. No need to mess about with pc's and transferring files (unless you got no wifi). Files will be saved in sdcard/downloads, or if from xda site in a tapatalk file.

Sorry if this is stating the bleeding obvious, but seems not all aware of this.

This guide is a re-hash of a similar one that I did for another Android Forum member a few days back and I noticed today that there were a few questions about CheckROM installation and so I thought it might be easier to publish a reference point.

As I can see we both have same ROM and modem. You are using N.E.A.K. as kernel. Would you recommend me to use it? Now I have Siyah 2.6.11 installed and want to optimize battery usage. Is there a guide to install and optimize this kernel?

To be honest, I change kernels on a regular basis, as new ones come out, to see how they compare.

The first thing to remember is that not all phones, CPU's and usages are the same. So that a combination and settings that works for one user, may not be suitable for another.

Having said that, I have found both Siyah and N.E.A.K. kernels to be excellent for me.

It is also worth noting that most of what follows can also be applied to the excellent N.E.A.K. kernel which can be downloaded here:-

So, the best thing to do is to follow those instructions for Siyah and apply them to N.E.A.K.. I am using noop scheduler with conservative governor and sched_mc enabled in the NEAK options, shown in Recovery.

Used your guide to flash CheckROM last night (my first flash) and it worked like a charm. Thank you. I'm blown away by the difference. When reading through the forums it's all about the risks or technical data and surprisingly litte information about what these things actually do so I was pleasantly surprised.

I haven't touched the Kernal yet, does it really make a difference what kernal you use?

Most people will tell you there is a big difference, but on general day to day running, you wont see too much difference. Chainfire's kernels are as good as any. Very smooth and good battery.

Other kernels such as NEAK and Siyah will give you BLN, and also extra governors/schedulers, so unless you want to go to the next level of tweaking your GS2, Chainfire's kernels really are as good as anything else.

In addition to thanking hawker in another post for his scripts as i've only just signed up. These guys are fantastic, perfection in every way. Got my S2 a few weeks ago and it was these guides that got me started with rooting/checkrom and now i can't stop trying different things lol. If reputable ROM developers, such as the CheckROM team, feel that Samsung's official release, LPQ, is, "less than perfect", to begin with... then that's another good reason to stay on GingerBread and CheckROM v6.

It makes me wonder if Samsung didn't just rush this build out in an effort to fulfil their promise of ICS for the SGSII in Q1... come what may!

When you think about how often GB firmwares got released, which is considered a pretty stable base, I would imagine during the initial couple of months of ICS, there will be a new firmware release every week or so. This is exactly why i'm not touching it until checkrom release their offering.
