Help Wrong ringtone?

I'm having the same issue with my Desire HD... updated to 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0 about cpl wks ago... keeps playing the same song from my media even after I delete from memory, and only for email notifications!? Tried resetting notification/ringtone, deleted song in question, even created whoole new custom sound set, rebooted several times... still keeps playing 'Train of Consequences' by Megadeth instead of preloaded ringtone I've selected... HELP!! (At least my phone likes Megadeth lol!)

One issue I noticed is that Android references ringtones numerically in the order they were "discovered." As a result, mounting / remounting my SD card would change my ringtones. As a result, I keep them in internal memory and that cut down on my problems.
So I tried as you suggested, now I've got a new issue; phone will not play ANY ringtone or song at all when I get an e-mail... calls, txts, alarms, calendar all play the right tones, just not my effin e-mail!! I'm about to do a full reset on the phone, but don't really want the hassle of dl'ing all my apps again

I had weird problems with my ringtone randomly changing as well. I usually saw it happen right after I mounted the phone for USB storage. After disconnecting, my ringtone would be changed to something random or the default ringtone. I was able to remedy this by copying my custom ringtones to the /system/media/audio/ringtones folder or whatever it is. Haven't had a problem since.

Don't you need root to read/write to that folder?

Ringtones changed on me just now when I restarted the phone.

Only for stock rt's, not for dl'd or installed, they shld show up...
And now it gets weird... phone's not playing songs anymore, BUT... the tones don't match the labels (?). As in I have ringtone from '24' for calls and does indeed play the sound, but in settings it has something else entirely... Is it possible for a phone to go senile? Cus I think mine is...

I had the same issue. If anyone has Locale, i fixed my problem by setting my ringtones inside certain situations. For instance, i put my regular ringtone under the Default situation and then any personal ringtones under personal contacts within Locale. It might not be the best fix but if you are already running Locale it is worth a try. Has worked for me so far, even after mounting my phone.

I was having this issue also since most of the ringtones I use are not from the default Sense. Email, phone ringtone and txt message all use some ringtones i downloaded from Zedge. Whenever you mount/remount, the system has to give access to the memory card when selecting removable media which is where those ringtones/notifications are located. Once you dismount from the computer, the system has to find those ringtones and set them as default again. This is where there are issues with the reapplying of sounds so the system picks out a song at random it seems. So, what I did was use root explorer and placed my custom ringtones into the actual ROM of the phone (/System/media). I know it's a pain in the butt when switching out ringtones but I'm settled with the ones I've picked. Once doing that I restarted, tested my ringtones and they worked good. I mounted the memory card on my computer, dismounted, checked ringtones and they still good :).
