Help Is my phone really charging?

Just got a new S2. Phone won't even turn on so I'm assuming battery is completely drained first.

However, when I plug it in to charge I don't see any indication that it's charging. I briefly see a empty battery picture on the screen that's grey. Isn't the green/orange light supposed to be on while charging?

Yeah it's charging. It will show that screen if it's off and charging. Eventually, the grey battery will be filled in by green according to how much it has been charged. You will know it's done charging when the whole battery is green and says 100%.

THink I got a faulty phone, ****.

Stupid thing doesn't even turn on and like I said, when I charge it there is nothing on the screen! Are you sure that's normal? The phone does get hot while charging. Is it just completely dead until fully charged or something. It's been charging 5 hours and still nothing, this can't be right.

What do you mean there's nothing on the screen? 5 hours is more than enough needed for a full charge, even at 0%. The battery should be filled with green. Do you know how to turn the phone on? Incase you don't, here's how: hold down the button on the right side of the phone, that's the power/sleep button. It should power on within 5 seconds, this is when you let go of the power button and watch the ugly AT&T boot animation.

NOTE: left side is the volume up and down button (bigger button). The right side is the power button (smaller button), which is what you're supposed to be pressing

Hold the on switch in the "on" position for about 5 seconds, you should see the Samsung logo show up.

The phone should not be getting hot while charging. sounds like the circuitry is bad or the battery is overcharging, due to the circuitry, or the charger is bad and over charging.
