Help What is going on?

So my phone was bogged down with apps, and I really didn't want to go through and uninstall them. Also, my phone needed to be wiped in general. I then backed up my data, and did a factory reset - completely wiping all the data off. Now that my phone is back up and running, I am frequently visited by force closes. Almost every action I take, it causes a force close dialog to appear. What should I do? I cleared all the cache, and I formatted my sd card (via the phone settings). Reboots didn't help either. I haven't install many apps (around four or five). They are apps I had before and I knew worked and were safe.

btw, I noticed a high pitched whine and other strange noises coming from my charger. After I did the reset, I haven't heard the charger make noises. Weird.

The reason why I formatted the sd, was due to the fact that every time I plugged the phone into the computer, I would get a dialog saying the drive was bad, offering to 'scan and fix'. The guy at the verizon store told me to format the sd card, and after doing so I don't see that dialog now.

Any ideas would be great.

I did try a battery pull, and sd card pull (as suggested by others), neither of which did anything different. So, I cleared the home screen, e.g. I had a couple of stock widgets (i.e. google search, calendar). Rebooted, and the force closes have subsided for now. Apparently my phone doesn't like widgets. But I'm going to do more extensive testing and see if other things cause a fc.

Wireless communication works for now. Phone seems a little slower since the reset, which doesn't make sense because I don't have all the things installed I had before. Of course I'm terrible at pinpointing exactly what causes a phone to be slower (partially because everyone argues over what does and doesn't).

The charger issue, I still haven't got a clue. So, I just bought a new usb/ac adapter.

My dx2 was a turtle until I flashed a custom rom. I am now in no hurry for another phone. Hope you consider flashing a custom rom.

Stock 2.3.4; not rooted; never done anything with ROMs.

Honestly, I've heard good and bad about ROMs and rooting, but I just have two main problems:
1. Legality
2. Bricking

As for #2, I currently do not have the money for another phone, so... I guess if I choose to perform either, I should read the directions carefully (inc. reading multiple times before attempting).

I was in your shoes 4 weeks ago... My phone was very slow and it was very aggravating to deal with. I finally decided to flash a rom and my phone improved four folds. Others and myself on here can't stress how much of an improvement you'll see with a custom rom. If you're not very familiar with what takes place, I and many others will be gladly to help you step by step.

Just take baby steps. These next couple of days or even the next week, google, youtube, and ask questions about rooting. It's a very simple process once you have the concept down. Same goes to flashing roms.

Step 1 is to get your phone rooted.

Always re-read articles 2, maybe 3 times so you always have a clear mental idea/picture of what is included/needed.

Yeah its hard to pinpoint like you say but here are a few things that consider: try rooting and freezing useless apps first and see how that works for awhile. Try some system tweaks such as turning off animations, minimizing the amount of data consuming widgets running and home screens. Force closes should not occur frequently unless you are running a third party app that may not be functioning well. Generally your phone will still lag and that's because of moto blur. After you get it rooted I would try installing bootstrap recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache.

Ultimately though getting off blur and getting on Cyanogen mod rom was the ultimate performance booster for me.
